There are too many stereotypes in there to know where to start. If that really is your experience then you have been incredibly unlucky. How many times were bananas thrown at black managers in Spain? I've never seen it. Never heard a black manager monkey-chanted there either.
Seen several black people in Spain and white hash-sellers too - mostly white in fact, also seen a fair few black people at football matches working all sorts of jobs, and in universities, so which of your experiences isn't a racist stereotype against either blacks or Spanish?
well when i lived in Spain I saw very few blacks and the only ones in the town where i lived (pamplona) were digging holes in the road, which according to the locals was 'fitting'. Of course in a cosmopolitan city like Barcelona (where i have also spent a lot of time) it is a bit different but i would say barca is the exception not the norm.
Yes i may have been generalizing somewhat and the example of throwing bananas may not have been the greatest, but i think the overall point is a valid one. And i defy anyone to say that racism is not prevalent in most Latin or Baltic countries, it was this i was trying to illustrate.
also, to be honest, most of the hash peddlers in southern spain are north africans.
I've been to a few places, especially Spain. I'm not white, but I can honestly say I've had more experience of racism in Britain than Spain and that goes for a lot of my friends too. Ask the Spaniards on here and they will tell you what it's really like. They are only just beginning to experience mass immigration and there are problems associated with it, but Spain is not the racist hell it is made out to be - at least not in my experience.
Also I've heard monkey chanting in various places at football matches. The Spanish reaction to it is no difFerent to other countries. Other countries say it is just done to help the team as well, even places you wouldn't expect at first.
I met Idriss Carlos Kameni in Ghana the Cameroon goalkeeper. He has had monkey-chanting and banana throwing in Spain and that was from his own so-called fans. Well he told me that it is much better in Spain, that the authorities have acted against it and done something about it. His family attend Espanyol games and are well treated. If he doesn't have a problem with Spanish football supporters isn't it time to move on?
