I know there is still two games left to go. But you do you think has been our player of the year?

Clichy, Sagna, Flamini, Hleb, Fabregas & Adebayor have all had good seasons, but who has been the best?

For me it is Adebayor, I can totally relate with Wengers recent comments that he only expected him to score half the goals that he has registered this campaign. He has had a great season.

BTW Theo Walcott has been voted our player of the month.

Good for him, he is starting to make an impression on this side and not just from the bench. Hopefully Wenger starts him against Everton.

    Not CLichy.

Sagna has been consistent but unspectacular - very good first season though.

The other four all warrant a shout, but for me, its Flamini. Haven't seen the guy have a bad game yet

Flamini by a country mile. Adebayor's been a lot more prolific than expected, but still spent two months in the middle of the season not being able to hit a cow's arse. Cesc likewise - some very good games in the second half of the season but some anonymous ones too, and he couldn't keep up the goalscoring of the first three or four months. Clichy and Sagna have both been impressive without being outstanding, Hleb spends his whole time dribbling sideways and looking for cute round the corner passes, and when they're not on he's basically useless.

So it has to be Flamini - consistent all season, no significant dip in form, always did what was asked of him, and got the best out of Fabregas.

Last few hours of Flamini's contract deadline left?

Will I have to change my avatar Sad I really hope not. He has been our most consistent player of the season. Never put a foot wrong.

Why leave Arsenal for Milan , is that really a step up , Milan are looking like a spent force and who knows how long it may take them to get back to the top (could be next season , football never know) but its a stupid decision IMO.

Arsenal Managing Director Keith Edelman leaves the Club
After eight highly successful years at Arsenal, Managing Director and Director of Arsenal Holdings PLC, Keith Edelman, has today announced his departure from the Club in search of a fresh challenge.

Mr Edelman, who was responsible for overseeing the historic move from Highbury to Emirates Stadium, has resigned as a Director of Arsenal Holdings PLC, but will be retained by the Club for a 12-month period to ensure that a smooth transition takes place.

Keith Edelman said: “I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Arsenal. It has been a very exciting period for the business and I am proud to have contributed to the Club’s many off-field achievements over the past eight years, not least the Emirates Stadium project. Now that we have completed our second season at Emirates, I believe it is the right time to seek pastures new and embark upon fresh challenges.”

Peter Hill-Wood, Chairman, commented: “Keith has played a major role in the growth of the Club since he joined in 2000. In that time we have successfully implemented the move from Highbury to Emirates Stadium that has underpinned the future of the business and confirmed our position as one of Europe’s leading clubs. We are grateful to Keith for his crucial role in this transformation.

“Under Keith’s stewardship the Club has achieved record profits and the Board owes him a debt of gratitude for his contribution. We wish him the very best for the future.”

The Board has already initiated the search for a new Managing Director and will update shareholders and stakeholders when appropriate. In the meantime, Director Ken Friar, who has a wealth of football-based experience and business acumen having previously occupied the role of Managing Director (1982-2000), will assume the position of Acting Managing Director.

    http://www.arsenal.com/article.asp?thisNav=News&article=490948&lid=NewsHeadline&Title=Arsenal+Managing+Director+Keith+Edelman+leaves+the+Club

Anyone know the reasons behind this? We seem to lose an important board member every spring-time at the moment!

Not sure about Edelman, maybe he genuinly felt that he has taken the club to a new level and seeks a new challenge. The lockdown lasts until 2012, so I can't see Red & White holdings causing that big a rift in the boardroom.

Wengers interview with ATVO usually appears of Thursday mid-afternoon, so we might find out about the Flamini decision then.

Arsenal cast net in direction of Michael Johnson

Arsenal are hoping to capitalise on the unfolding chaos at Manchester City by preparing a summer bid for Michael Johnson, the England Under-21 midfield player. Arsène Wenger, the Arsenal manager, is becoming concerned that Mathieu Flamini, who has partnered Cesc Fàbregas in central midfield for most of this season, has had his head turned by interest from abroad and will not be signing a new contract at the Emirates Stadium.

If Flamini leaves, Arsenal are likely to make Johnson their prime target. The North London club have asked to be kept informed of Gareth Barry's position at Aston Villa but fear that, even if the England player is made available for transfer, they would not be able to compete with the financial packages on offer from Liverpool and Chelsea, who have also expressed interest. Liverpool have been linked with Johnson, too, but Wenger's top target is Barry and favours a move for the 20-year-old.

The turmoil at City in recent weeks, with the likelihood that Sven-Göran Eriksson, the manager, will be sacked in the summer and the increasing involvement of Thaksin Shinawatra, the owner, in football matters, has left the club vulnerable. Micah Richards, the England defender, has missed the latter half of the season with a knee injury but would also be certain to attract big-money offers, unless the situation at City settles down. He was a target for Chelsea during José Mourinho's time in charge.

Flamini is often cast as little more than a holding midfield player, but that underplays his style. He likes to get forward and Wenger believes that Johnson, who has drawn comparisons to Steven Gerrard, could replicate that role in tandem with Fàbregas.

Flamini is free to talk to other clubs as his contract expires at the end of the season, with a deadline set by Wenger for him to agree a new deal running out yesterday. Flamini has been offered two improved contracts by Arsenal, the latest placing him in the second tier of players' salaries on £50,000 a week, but believes that he has been undervalued for some time. AC Milan are the favourites to sign Flamini and Umberto Gandini, the organisational manager of the Italian club, was in London yesterday to finalise their offer, but the France player may move to Juventus if Milan fail to qualify for next season's Champions League, a distinct possibility.

Either way, the 24-year-old may have played his last game for Arsenal as he has been out for three weeks with an ankle injury. Flamini is often cast as little more than a holding midfield player, but that underplays his style. The France international likes to get forward, and Wenger believes that Johnson, who has drawn comparisons to Steven Gerrard, could replicate that role in tandem with Fàbregas. Considering Wenger's record for good husbandry, the blow would be that there will be no money coming in from the departure of Flamini with which to finance the Johnson deal.

Time is not on Arsenal's side with Flamini, whose contract expires in the summer. He has been the subject of interest from Juventus, who are busily rebuilding after financial scandal in Serie A and already have qualified for next season's Champions League, AC Milan, who have not yet guaranteed their place in Europe's biggest club tournament, and Bayern Munich, who are on course to be the German champions.

Wenger set an April deadline for contract agreement and, if nothing is settled by today, it has to be presumed that Flamini will go and the process of luring Johnson will begin. With so much uncertainty, it is not be happening at a good time for City.

    http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/columnists/martin_samuel/article3850456.ece
He could be a good addition to the team, I was impressed by his box to box style of play earlier this season. You would have to say that Barry would be a good option as he would bring so much with him, his leadership would be a great asset to this young squad.

If/when both Flamini & Gilberto leave, we need to replace both. One signing won't be enough IMO.

Van Persie to miss Everton game 'as a precaution'

Robin van Persie will miss the visit of Everton on Sunday as a precaution.

The Dutchman went off at half time in the 6-2 win at Derby on Monday because of a slight thigh problem. The 24-year-old has suffered with that injury this year so Arsène Wenger deemed it best to withdraw him. With only a tiny chance of lifting the Premier League and Euro 2008 coming up this summer, he is going to leave him out again this weekend.

"Van Persie is out as a precaution," said the manager. "We don't want to gamble at this stage of the season on a muscular problem. We had a little alert but it is not big at all. Apart from that we have no one coming back. Maybe Mathieu [Flamini] will be on the bench but I don't know yet. He might join in training on Friday."

Apart from that, Wenger is liable to name the same squad as Monday. That means the likes of Lukasz Fabianski, Nicklas Bendtner and Denilson may continue.

"I want to see them in a competitive area," he said. "We have a big game on Sunday. They go for something, we go for something. I want to see them again."

Arsenal TV Online subscribers will be able to see the full video interview on Friday morning. In it Wenger talks about: the Champions League Semi-Finals, his reaction to Keith Edelman leaving, the Flamini situation, the PFA awards, the Hleb situation, going for the title and winning at Everton.

I hope we sign him, probably the most talented U-21 English player.

It will be good For England if this boy fulfils his potential cos they hardly produce midfielders of his kind.

Johnson would be a great buy for any team.

A young box to box player who is technically sound, sounbds the ideal CM.

I've send on a couple of occasions on Liverpool discussion that if Xabi Alonso were to leave us in the summer, Johnson is a player I'd love to see brought in. Also Rafa tried to sign him last summer and apperantly made inquires during Xmas/Jan, so it could very well be us two clubs fighting for his signiture if City do decide to cash in.

Mathieu Flamini has told Arsenal they will have to make him one of the country's highest paid players if they want to keep him next season.

The French midfielder has made the astonishing demand for a deal worth £7.5million-a-year - around £144,000 a week - because he has a similar offer on the table from AC Milan.

Very interesting that the deadline was extended the day after Edelman left. It wouldn't surprise me if we put a last ditch package together to try and make him change his mind.

I think Wenger is waiting for some good news, e.g. a win against Everton, then he will let everyone know that Flamini is leaving in the summer.

Losing two young and highly promising midfielders, Diarra and Flamini, in one season will be a blow.

Smeels like bs. Football365, is as reliable as tribal football, furthermore it makes no sense Kranjcar is not a Wenger player, far too slow.

Very interesting that the deadline was extended the day after Edelman left. It wouldn't surprise me if we put a last ditch package together to try and make him change his mind.

So who is supporting Inter this weekend then? Whistle

I definitely will. UEFA cup football for Milan might just swing things in our favour.

We could really do with some good news. The transfer window doesn't open for ages and I'm already fed up with things! Everything seems to be rather troubling at the moment, certain players always injured, boardroom changes, and key players likely to leave. We could do with a bit more to be positive about at the club!

I don't understand - surely with the league title still winnable Wenger should be risking anyone he's got to try to get the result.

Do you lot still feel that Van Persie 'can only get better'? Because I've seen NOTHING of him this season that suggests he's developed as a player over the last year.

We can win the game without RVP. no point risking injuring him further.
