Dani Alves to Barcelona for 30m; decent negotiating I didn't think you'd get him for less than 35.

Sure, but why'd you let him go? I thought you guys were pretty excited about this kid...
Yeah but he never really showed anything impressive in all his appearances for the first team. Had a few starts, had plenty of substitute appearances, but all he had to show for it was 1 goal against Stuttgart in the CL, and a hattrick on the last day against a relegated Murcia. Not many assists either that I can remember. His general play was also unimpressive...he never seemed to understand how to link up with others, and when he did get the ball he would just run aimlessly with it before putting in a poor cross/pass or losing it. Physically he was quite strong though, so it bodes well for him in the future.
It could be said that he deserves more of a chance to establish himself in a stable team rather than one with so many problems as we had last year. But overall I'm not shedding too many tears because I don't think we'll miss out on a world class star. Maybe sending him on loan for a season first would have been better, because he was definitely not going to progress at Barça, being behind Messi and a host of other more versatile attackers. Another factor is that he signed up with Pini Zahavi as his agent, and that can only cause trouble in the future...during the season they were shopping him around all the English clubs. Don't want trouble like that at the club, esp. from a 19 year old who's done f@ck-all but starts to think he's made it and can start exploiting the club for the new contract.
So overall, like I said, I personally was happy to cash in...I only wish the up front fee had been higher

Re: La Liga Summer Transfer Thread
Agüero Rejects Chelsea
Atletico Madrid striker Sergio Agüero has turned down the opportunity to join Chelsea after the West London club agreed to pay the release clause of his contract.
Agüero has enjoyed a superb second season in the Spanish top flight, scoring a number of vital goals and establishing himself as one of the best young players in world football.
Such performances have clearly garnered attention for the 19 year old, with 'AS' reporting that a number of clubs have approached Atletico in the last week with proposals to sign Agüero.
Atletico rejected most of the offers out of hand, but were forced to accept Chelsea's bid as it matched Agüero's release clause of €55million.
Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is keen to start a new era at Stamford Bridge following the likely break-up of the Jose Mourinho crafted team and is looking for exciting young talents who can fulfil his wish for attractive attacking football.
Agüero is one such player, but has rejected the opportunity to join Chelsea, indicating that he prefers to show loyalty to Atletico and continue the development of his game in Spain rather than make the jump to England.
The Argentine striker has settled well at Atletico and is clearly keen to repay the faith they showed in him by spending €20-odd million to sign him from Independiente in 2006, especially with the lure of Champions League football next season.
Inter Milan are thought to have been one of the other clubs that approached Atletico in the last week but with the Italian club unwilling to match Chelsea's offer and Agüero intent on staying in Madrid, there interest seems futile for now.

As usual no quotes and probably BS.

Pirlo mentions the rumour of Barça being interested in him...interesting that he says "maybe" when asked if he would join. I don't think there's anything to it though, probably just a newspaper linking Guardiola's style of play with Pirlo.

Yea, he already has that super-star feel to him, without having done anything to deserve it from what you're mentioning.
I just figured with the hype he'd already received that there had to be something to him, but from what you're saying it doesn't look like he's really getting any further in his development. Thought he'd get more of a chance.
He could do well in England as the technical ability is generally lower at the smaller clubs.

Heard it was 32m Euros... that's a hell of a lot for a RB.
Do you really think Alves will do well?

Re: La Liga Summer Transfer Thread
Yes I believe he'll be a great signing. Maybe not as stunning as his 2 UEFA Cup winning seasons with Sevilla, but it'll be an improvement on Zambrotta. Sounds bizarre, but IMO this is where blut's theory of fitting individuals to a system rather than vice versa, comes into play. Zambrotta just couldn't attack if his life depended on it, whereas Alves is natural at that, which suits Barça much better.

One of the reasons Zambrotta had a good rep was because he could attack very well. allthough i understand if you mean in his Barca time because that was kind of true but Messi doesnt play with full backs. he still has to learn to connect or else it wouldnt be as great as it seems on paper. i have a bit worry about Alves' role in Barca because im not sure he can control play like he pretty much did in Sevilla. also there is greater distance from full back to the winger(messi) then at Sevilla. either way he all add alot to the attack.

Re: La Liga Summer Transfer Thread
Seems Camacho has advised Barca not to sign Moutinho; I had no idea the fat guy was such a good fellow.
Camacho calims Barca aleardy has enough players for Moutinho's position and claims the Sporting captain can't play on the wings... where apparently he believes we play Veloso.
Considering he's wrong about Veloso, I don't know how much weight Camacho's evaluation of Moutinho should carry.. he doesn't think he can play the flank, while being about to play any role in the midfield is Moutinho's biggest assest.
Camacho's an idiot - that's why he signed for Benfica twice and that's why he's failed twice.

Sevilla have signed Fernando Navarro from Mallorca for 4.7m euros. Marti will also move to Mallorca as part of the deal. Barça don't get money out of it because apparently we did wave our 30% rights to the player after all during negotiations for Dani Alves.
