    It was comprehensible, just pointless.

The visas were made free of charge and the Zenit fans were given a fair amount of time to be able to attain them.

    http://www.uefa.com/competitions/uefacup/news/kind=1/newsid=693645.html

I haven't heard people say the final should be at Wembley either.

I think most people's concern is the pitch, which is a more than valid concern given the reports about it.

Weird rant from you kas Wink

The numbers of British and Zenit fans make the comparison a bit foolish, especially considering all united and Chelsea fans are coming from London. Zenit fans got free visas I think

Uefa simply had bad luck this year with two teams from the same country. Moscow is obviously not ideal for fans to travel to, but it'll be a great experience for them

I dont are too much about the whole visa thing but one thing that has to be in order is the pitch. i cant understand how there can be pitch problems when they have known all along that the cl final would be there.

    Fergie's record in European finals

    --------------------------------------------------------------------

    1983 - Aberdeen 2 Real Madrid 1
    1991 - Man Utd 2 Barca 1
    1999 - Man Utd 2 Bayern 1

    I'll certainly be putting a £5 on a 2-1 win. Very Happy

No significance for the date, 30 years ago we knew what the regime was in Russia, the fear from being watched by KGB operatives would make the tourist be fearful of sneezing or be beaten down. And like the Moscow Olympics nobody will be stepping out of line.

Should have said 1968; everyone (especially the Czechs) back then knew who they would be messing with.

Champions League final: Manchester United's Michael Carrick aims to impress Fabio Capello

Michael Carrick, the Manchester United midfielder, hopes that Wednesday's Champions League final will bring a winner's medal and a passport back into the England squad. Life is good for the popular Geordie, particularly with the ink drying on a lucrative four-year contract, and he aims to confirm his renaissance with a call from Fabio Capello.

With the Italian in attendance, the Luzhniki Stadium will host plenty of heavyweight English midfield talent, from Joe Cole and Frank Lampard in the blue corner to Carrick, Paul Scholes and Owen Hargreaves in the red. The Chelsea pair of Cole and Lampard are always in Capello's thoughts.

Of the United trio, Scholes is unlikely to rescind his decision to retire internationally, for all Capello's wishful thinking. England's coach rates Hargreaves, who is usually on the bench for United. Capello, though, seems ambivalent towards Carrick, a regular starter for United who is hungry for similar England recognition by Capello.

Carrick has convinced Sir Alex Ferguson of his worth this season, and must now persuade Capello. Asked why he was not involved in the squad to face the United States and Trinidad and Tobago next week, Carrick admitted to being perplexed. "I don't know really," said the 26-year-old. "It frustrates me a little bit. But we have had so much on here - going for the League and now the Champions League - that England is not something I have thought too much about. Maybe that will come further down the line.

"Hopefully if I am playing well enough I will get a chance, but I have enough things at the minute to keep me upbeat. There is probably no better place than a Champions League final to showcase what I can do to England. If you can do it there, you can do it anywhere."

Carrick described his stop-start international career as "all right" so far with 14 caps scattered over seven years. Brimming with youthful promise, he broke into the England side as a teenager, making his debut against Mexico in 2001 while at West Ham. One more cap arrived during his time at Upton Park before a move to Tottenham brought five outings, including a start in the 2006 World Cup in Germany, the Stuttgart win over Ecuador.

A £17 million move to United quickened the flow of caps, a further seven arriving in the past two years, but he has yet to feature under Capello. "It is not bad," reflected Carrick of his international record. "I have been to a World Cup and played a game at a World Cup which was a dream come true. It was fantastic, but once you've had a little bit you want more and hopefully at the next World Cup I can get more involved."

The smooth-passing midfielder has shone this season, cementing himself in Ferguson's affections and in United's engine room, keeping at bay rivals like Hargreaves and the hugely promising Anderson. "I feel I have progressed all the time I have been here," added Carrick. "I have been here for two years and it is just the best place to learn your trade. This season has got better and better. Hopefully I can finish on a high now."

Those who admire Carrick feel he just needs to believe in his talent more, to seize matches. He is blessed with a long-range pass that occasionally evokes memories of Glenn Hoddle; Carrick just needs to deploy this weapon more consistently. Some say he is almost too nice and, certainly off the field, he is one of the profession's more courteous members.

But the sight of Tom Huddlestone being selected by Capello ahead of him should stir Carrick's blood. A Champions League final provides a useful stage to parade his ability, particularly against such vaunted opposition as Lampard, Michael Ballack and Claude Makelele.

"It is a massive game and the fact that this club has only been in three [1968, 1999 and 2008] finals speaks volumes for how tough this competition is," continued Carrick. "Liverpool reached two finals in quick succession [2005 and 2007], but it is not an easy thing to do. You have to grasp the opportunity."

Carrick respects the quality in Chelsea's ranks and is friendly with Lampard and Cole from his West Ham days. "We know each other very well," added Carrick. "It is two good teams going at it. There are a lot of world-class players on the pitch so it should be entertaining. Sometimes they are cagey, tight affairs but it doesn't matter how we play just so long that we pick up that trophy." And Capello takes note.

God knows who I want to win this one. For once I'll be watching the game as a true neutral.

Anyone else thinking this is the answer to the EPL's 39th game proposal?

I know its not ten whole fixtures but if the EPL can dominate the UEFA cup too that'll be 1/5th of the ePL.

Just watching Sky News and they had live footage of Chelsea training on the pitch. Makalele put a heavy challenge in on A Cole. He got carried off the pitch and might have done some damage to his ankle. It looked a bit swollen. My guess is that he will be fine, but it would be great if Makalele's put him out of the final the day before the game. Seeing Cole lifting the trophy is my biggest reason against wanting Chelsea to win!

I definitely would rather see Chelsea win tomorrow. Anyone over Man Utd really for me. But I don't think I'd be able to watch the celebrations if A Cole was in the middle of it. If he is injured for tomorrow and Chelsea emerge victorious then that is just about the most I can ask for from a horrible situation!

You really want Chelsea to be the 1st London team to win the CL, a lot of my Gooner friends do not want this, but opinions do differ and that’s no problem, but Chelsea as usual could be making history.

I'd rather we were the first team to do it, but seeing as Chelsea are in the final, why not? We missed our chance, if they take theirs then fair play to them. And it's about time a London club won the Champions League so I wouldn't begrudge Chelsea doing it. Of course if they were playing a team I like then I'd be hoping for them to lose, but the prospect of them being the first London team to win the competition is preferable to Man Utd winning it for me.
