I don't know. They probably have. There was lots of interest when he was wowing the premiership with his assuredness as a 17 year old defender, but he ended up getting shunted about a bit by previous managers, got tagged with the 'Mr Versatility' thing, which isn't always great.

He's a much better now than he was 5 years ago and he is getting interest from better clubs. So it goes.

I wasn't saying he'd be an auto-starter for Utd, just saying he would not be at all out of place if, say, he and Carrick were swapped.
He would as he would be a hindrance as he cant set the tempo , cant dictate the pace and cant play the one man defense in an attacking Man Utd team.
Barry could play that role for Utd in my opinion. He is, in my view, a better reader of the game defensively than Carrick. Doesn't have much pace, but then nor does Carrick.. both have good stamina/work ethic to cover the ground.

He sets the tempo for Villa (we like it fast, sometimes switching it up to WARP SPEED affraid ). I already said I think Carrick is better at long passing/possession - that is his strength - but Barry is not weak in these areas, he is still well above average for a Premiership player, and coupled with his better defensive instincts, goalscoring, crossing and set piece ability, I think he'd do fine for Utd, or any of the top 4.

Under Sven and McClown maybe so, this season he has grown as a player and playing the form of his live, why can’t he be given a chance under Don Fabio, England now seem to play 4-2-3-1?

That is the problem Rai. I'll argue with people about his performances for Man United but for England he was gash, plus he never attempted to stamp his authority on a game.

My only gripe is you can say the same about alot of English players.

I agree Carrick deserves to be in the squad, but its like Beckham he should be in the squad but definitely not a starter. None of his performances have stood out like Barry's have. Even his best performance against Uruguay he was nothing more than decent.

What's that you say? Carrick got relegated? Interestingly, Gareth Barry has never helped his club get relegated Smiley

Villa was 3pts from the drop in the season West Ham were relegated, did Barry play much in the 2002/03 season.

Carrick has helped his side finish 5th once .. and Champions yesterday Very Happy
Good comparison. Two teams having a bad season: the team with Barry survives, the team with Carrick goes down. You do the 'math'.

Well thats just lies. Barry is a class player, and deserves his place in the England team.

As Khadrim / Jimmy Bullard rightly points out, Carrick doesnt deserve a starting place, but if we are going on form, he deserves to be in the squad in the very least.

Still, good to see both the UNIT and Nemo in the squad. Albeit rather undeservingly.

Don't see what the fuss is all about tbh.

We all agree that Gerrard, and Lampard play better for their clubs than England. I'd probably include Rooney and Scholes in that category too.

Barry has looked a better player to me that Carrick while in an England shirt. Don't know why, but he has. On that basis I'd pick Hargreaves and Barry for the 'defensive' central midfield roles, and Lampard and Gerrard for the attacking ones. Carrick wouldn't get picked.

Of course, if Barry or Hargreaves starts underperforming, Carrick gets a call-up. Yes? ok

    Unacceptable Roger.

The major difference is that Gerrard and Lampard have had countless games to prove their worth for England.

    Carrick hasn't.

Although I currently believe Barry deserves his place for England, so there are no complaints from me here. Drop Gerrard instead if he keeps playing like a gaping cunthole Ale

Eh? drop an attacking midfielder and play Carrick instead? He'll look even more of a useless c**t than usual.

If Gerrard and Lampard aren't performing then J Cole should be playing in the middle and Downing brought in on the left.

Or perhaps as none of our strikers have been great, we should play 4-6-0 to get Carrick on the pitch?

Are Carrick, or infact Barry for that matter, really DMC's? Really?

I don't think so. Carrick's pinpoint passing ability makes him an attacking threat. Certainly worth a go if Steven G doesn't turn up to the races.

Joe Cole in the middle, with zero experience of playing the position for club would be folly Roger.

The biggest folly in football since Cooper's ginger beacon was allowed into Riverside and caused widespread 3rd degree burns to surrounding fans.
