Sheffield gunner wrote:Fair enough. As I said, I don't particularly like our approach at times. It's just annoying me to read these topics and see people acting morally outraged about how clubs act around their players yet not seeming to appreciate that their own clubs do much the same. Thankfully no clubs stoop as low as Real Madrid, but virtually every top club does what it can get away with, whether that's poaching youngster, unsettling through the media, tapping up players or riding roughshod over small clubs just because they can get away with it.
Why is Real Madrid worse than Arsenal? We may coerce teams into selling us players at times, but at least we pay those teams a good amount of money once we get them. Arsenal sneakily exploits loopholes of young players from other teams so that the transfer fee is either minimum or non-existent. At least we financially compensate teams while Arsenal ensures that the other teams get 0 compensation for developing a great player through their academy.
I would say that Arsenal is as bad, if not worse than Real Madrid when it comes to transfers.

The Portuguese ace has been linked with a move to the Spanish outfit for quite some time now, with the Real Madrid president, Ramón Calderón, claiming that he would be very delighted to bring in the former Sporting player to his squad.
The 23-year-old stated yesterday that, despite Real Madrid's reported interest, he had not received an offer from the Spanish capital club. He further added that updated news over his future would be released in just a couple of weeks.
However, Ronaldo has now made his intentions crystal clear after admitting that he is eyeing a move to Santiago Bernabéu.
"I have a dream to play for Madrid. You also have dreams, no? Well, this is my dream," he stated to Portuguese television.
Contract Speculation
However, he also offered a somewhat veiled commitment to the Old Trafford side.
He continued, "My contract is with Manchester United and is with them that I must talk.
"My deal could have some additions to it in the next two weeks, but I've signed nothing with Madrid."
In this way he harked back to his two week deadline of sorting out his future, while also thoroughly denying reports that he had already secured an 'under-the-table' deal.
Robinho's representative, Wagner Ribeiro, claimed yesterday that Manchester United would only allow Ronaldo to leave Old Trafford if someone from Real Madrid that plays in the same position, namely Robinho, was to make a move in the opposite direction.
Calderón is now aware of Ronaldo's interest and should intensify negotiations with the British club about a summer transfer.

What does Manchester know about morals? Clubs that sell their souls to corporate USA have nothing to talk about.
At least they was not bankrolled by a Hitler wannabe.
Lets just leave it at that.
The club paid 30 mill or more to fight off the Glazers. It was bought it didn't choose to sell until there was no choice.

On Ronaldo's latest quotes.
Just saw the press conference with him and Nani. Total fabrication as usual. He simply repeated his initial comments from years ago, he one day dreams to play in Spain. The reporter asked does that mean Madrid, he said i have dreams like anybody else don't you?
This equals ''I dream of playing for Real Madrid''
Come on get outta here.

It is just the players being asked whether they would like "x" to join the club. And the standard answer is always " "x" is a very good player and of course I would like to play with him."
Same thing when they a getting linked to some club: "It is an honour that "y" is interested in me bla bla bla"..

It is standard in Spain.. there is a report everyday of some player commenting on a rumoured signing. I am surprised you take it seriousely. It is not like when the president or manager says that they want a certain player in the team.

Still refused to sign though which probably cost us the title last year since Guddy isn't exactly a massive threat in front of goal.

We should have learnt that with Overmars and Petit
I am sure that in 5 years time we will break the record transfer fee and sign Cesc who somehow will instantly become very average

The Spanish capital club are interested in bolstering their options with the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo, with Real Madrid's president, Ramón Calderón, seeming capable of just everthing to bring in the Portuguese ace.
Marca has played a key role in the story of Real Madrid's attempting to land the Manchester United star so far, and today is no different.
Thus it was that the paper had access to photos from a R8 model from Audi, Real Madrid's automobile partner, with a note saying the following taped to the window: "Deliver to Cristiano Ronaldo."
On this note, it was also printed that this delivery is related to Real Madrid, who signed a lucrative agreement with the German manufacturer in 2003.
The Manchester United player is currently at the Portuguese national squad's training ground in Viseu, having claimed earlier today that his dream is to play for Los Merengues.
No doubt his club bosses back at Old Trafford will be furiosu at this latest display in Madrid.

Perhaps the fact that he's going to be getting much more than even 130k a week (after converting to euros obviously) at Madrid?
Some new quotes from him, where he again repeats the "we'll find out in 2-3 weeks" line. What's so significant in 2-3 weeks? Are contract talks ongoing? Is it something to do with Euro 2008?

Look on the previous page Jaime
Kas how much can they possibly pay him? 300k per week He is very well paid(one of the highest in football infact) Surely money and an Audi are not his motivation for leaving.....
No idea what the 2-3 weeks thing is all about. Did hear a rumour he will sign a new 6 year deal in 2 weeks yesterday but there was no credible info with it.
In all probablility looking at things that have actually been said(not the media twists) from Fergie and Ronaldo. It will make sense he will sign a long term deal, then leave in 2-3 years giving man utd a big fee. But who knows the reality.

The number I read (not in Marca this time, but elsewhere, I think on Yahoo Sports, can't remember for sure) was 250k euros a week, which is about 200k pounds a week. But don't forget image rights. That may well be the issue on which he (or his agent) want to negotiate with Man. Utd. and are using Madrid's interest to do so.

The number quoted in Spain is €200 mill
€80 million as the trasnfer fee and 120 mill in wages which means 20 million a year, translating into about 380k per week before taxes that is.

@l.r.d
I think what you forget is that Cronaldo is a mercenary. He is not one of your youth players and came to Man Utd to earn money not because of love for the club.
Also Cronaldo is probably sitting at home right now thinking "I have done everything, I have nothing left to prove in England. It can only become worse next season." so he huge ego tells him "I must become the best player in Spain now and topscorer"...

That would be ridiculous and seems a bit far fetched.
I don't believe he is 100% mercenary btw. He came because it was a bigger club, in a better league and he could be the best player in the world here. The money of course helped. Over time you grow to love the club. Especially the way incidents unfolded previously. He wants to be the best in Spain one day yes, but he's 23 not 28 there is no need for it to be now.
Caldermong denies do anything wrong
MADRID, May 25 (Reuters) - Real Madrid have defended themselves against accusations from Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson that they were using underhand tactics to pressure Portuguese forward Cristiano Ronaldo into joining them.
“I am really surprised to hear what he said about us. I don’t understand Ferguson,” Real president Ramon Calderon told sports daily Marca on Sunday.
“Real Madrid have conducted themselves exquisitely is this whole affair with Cristiano Ronaldo. We have always said that he is a player who has a contract and that Manchester United is not a selling club. That’s everything.”

That's true. But to be fair, Spanish reporters tend to repeatedly ask the players about potential signings. They do the same to Madrid players. They keep asking "So what do you think about the prospect of playing for X player? Do you think he would make a difference in the team?", etc. So the players try to be cordial and give the predictable "I would love to play with him" and so on.
The best was a few years ago, when the Beckham saga really grew toward the end of the season when La Liga was being decided. The reporters were more focused on whether Beckham was coming than with reporting the final stage of the league, which we were disputing with Real Sociedad.
At one point a reporter asked Guti, "so what do you think about the prospect of playing with Beckham?", and Guti just gave him a mean look and grabbed his (his own, not the reporters' ) balls or something like that. Classic Guti

6 million actually, but yes, that's partly why the rumors are too far-fetched. Calderon may be dumb, but would he be dumb enough to give Ronaldo 3 million more than the likes of Raul and Casillas make? That could cause all sorts of troubles in the dressing room, and Calderon has shown some understanding that we can't go back to the Galactico bullshit Perez did.
Calderon would be dumb enough to pay a riduculous transfer fee for Ronaldo, no doubt about that. There are still a lot of socios that feel betrayed about his failure to sign Kaka and Cesc, and they will not be voting for him in the next election unless he makes a crack signing.
