Deals OFF it's official. Though Ronaldo did not make a decision, and Calderon did not pull out. Instead a BIG hitch has come in the way Shocked

Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon's intention to retire Raul's No7 shirt when the club captain eventually hangs up his boots could lead to Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo rejecting a move to the Santiago Bernabeu.

Calderon wants to retire Raul's No7 in recognition of his success with Real during his career and confirmed his plans last week.

However, it's unlikely Ronaldo's management will look kindly on the prospect of the Portuguese running around with anything but No7 on his back. The United star's multi-million pound merchandise rights lean heavily on his 'CR7' brand and the player, himself, admitted only this week he hoped to open a hotel known as 'CR7'.

Calderon said: "We do not know if he (Ronaldo) will join us. But Raul won't have to change his number. He is untouchable."

My heart is set on a move to Madrid, says Manchester United's Ronaldo
By Ian Ladyman Last updated at 10:09 PM on 03rd June 2008

Cristiano Ronaldo wants to leave Manchester United for Real Madrid.

The Old Trafford winger has finally admitted to close friends in Portugal that he sees his longterm future in Spain and not with the Barclays Premier League champions.

Ronaldo knows that there are serious obstacles to overcome if he is to move this summer and that United will do everything they can to keep hold of him at least for another season.

He has also accepted that he may have to wait at least another year for his move to La Liga.

But - whether he leaves this summer or not - the fact is that the 23-year-old now has his heart set firmly on a move to Real.

It remains highly unlikely that Ronaldo will try to force a switch by officially asking for a transfer but United must now decide whether to hold their most saleable asset to his current £120,000-a-week contract or give in to Real's relentless pursuit of the player.

Last night, indications were that United's position had not changed, with manager Sir Alex Ferguson leaving for his annual break in France on the understanding that the Old Trafford board would not even consider selling the player.

Last week United threatened to report Real to UEFA for making illegal approaches to Ronaldo and chief executive David Gill has subsequently written to the Spanish club demanding that they drop their interest.

Nevertheless, United are becoming increasingly aware that Ronaldo's head has been turned and they now must face up to the grim fact that the Portugal forward wants to further his career in Spain.

Ronaldo's team of advisers have been hoping that United may bend to their demands for a new contract, something that the club has shown absolutely no intention of doing.

But even that would not persuade the player to remain at Old Trafford in the long term. The Madeira-born star feels that two league titles, an FA Cup and a Champions League title represent an adequate set of achievements in England and that he must eventually test himself in another league and in another environment.

Ronaldo is currently in Switzerland with his national team at a training camp ahead of the European Championship which begins at the weekend.

He has said already that he will make an announcement 'in the next few days' but the Portugal camp made it clear last night that they would not take any questions on their star man's future.

Spokesman Antonio Florencio said: "If it's going to (be announced during the tournament) I think it will come through his agent. This is the national team. We have no business dealing with such matters."

Portugal's opening game is against Turkey in Geneva on Saturday and Ronaldo was the centre of attention at their last public training session at their Neuchatel base last night.

The biggest cheers from the 12,000 supporters attendance were reserved for him every time he touched the ball.

Portugal winger Cristiano Ronaldo has said that he will quit Manchester United within a year to realise his dream of becoming a Real Madrid player. (Various)

Meanwhile, Marca's story today is that Barcelona are also interested in him...but that's only if the motion of no-confidence against Laporta goes through, and there are elections. Rosell will then use Ronaldo as the centre-piece of his election campaign.

So all in all, an unlikely story.

So this time is it he has been 'reported to have told his agent that he wants a move to Madrid'.

Well, of course he has been reported to have said that, they've just reported him saying it.

Until Ronaldo actually says this in public (which he might, I dunno), this is all just the same bullshit we've seen for the last few weeks.

The general theme of every newspaper today is that he's going to go or ask to leave. But there are no quotes with any of them.

Apparently a Real Madrid Journalist presented him with a Real Madrid poster in Portugal, the Portuguese official went to move him out of the way, and Ronaldo said no give to me it's a present for me. And he's only talking to spanish journalists nobody else. Bizarre.

But i still don't believe he would be such a c**t to consider leaving.

this is what I expect his big announcement to be, that 2008/9 will be his final season for United.

He'd be mental to request a transfer and it'd be almost as big as Gerrard's famous U-turn.

Apparently there's no announcement at all. I think he's just playing mind tricks to make himself relaxed for euro 2008. He'll sign a new 6 year deal in 2-3 weeks.

Ronaldo's mom said she wants to see him play for Real Madrid before she dies.

Cristiano Ronaldo's mum battling breast cancer

    2nd January 2008

The mother of Manchester United soccer ace Cristiano Ronaldo is battling breast cancer - and is currently recovering from a life-saving operation, it has been revealed.

Dolores Aveiro underwent radiotherapy after surgery to remove a lump from her breast and broke the news to the Man United Right/Left Winger just before Christmas.

Cristiano, 22, is desperate to be by the 53-year-old's side at the family home in Madeira, but must stay in England to continue playing in the premiership league.

"This has hit Cristiano really hard," a pal reveals. "He had his fair share of heartache and his mum means the world to him."

But the rising star of footabll is determined to look after his mother and calls her every day to keep her spirits up.

"I try to give my mum lots of love and affection," Cristiano told Britain's Sunday Mirror newspaper.

"I'm just sorry I can't be with her for her birthday."

It sounds like shes on the mend so i don't see the hurry in Ronaldo joining Real.

What should be keeping Ronaldo at Man Utd:
    • Loyalty to SAF and Queiroz.
    • Ronaldo saying numerous times he wants to be remembered as a true Man Utd great, i.e. Best, Cantona, Beckham.
    • Knowing SAF will retire in 2-3 years.
    • Anderson and Nani.
    • The fact that this group of players can only get better.
