Cristiano Ronaldo loses patience with Man United

Cristiano Ronaldo edged closer to the Old Trafford exit last night as he revealed he has lost patience with Manchester United.

United have taken a bullish stance over Real Madrid's aggressive pursuit of the red whizz, briefing over the weekend that Ronaldo (TRW) was starting to accept he will not be allowed to leave this summer.

But a close friend said: "Ronaldo has made his mind up now and feels it is just time to wait before he announces what he will do - which is to go to Madrid."

Real are prepared to plus Brazilian attacking midfielder Robinho once Ronaldo clarifies his intention to quit English football.

And he has made it clear that United's tactics will not work.

"The announcement about Cristiano's future will be the next step, but it won't happen until the end of Euro 2008 for him and Portugal," added the insider.

"At the moment he's trying to work out what United are playing at and why they're saying what they're saying, because it's simply not right.

"He is determined to be the master of his own future.

"The decision has been made and now it's a case of everybody getting in position for the future - even if United aren't yet ready to sit down and talk to Real."

Ronaldo's hardline stance has encouraged Real to step up the pressure on United, with Robinho's potential move in part-exchange the Spanish champions' latest negotiating position.

United were so incensed with Real's public interest they reported the Spaniards to FIFA - although that came to nothing as the governing body announced they would take no action.

Now Real sporting director Predrag Mijatovic and transfer market supremo Jose Angel Sanchez have been put on standby to fly to Manchester and open formal talks with United the moment Ronaldo publicly states his wish to leave Old Trafford.

Despite Sir Alex Ferguson's determination not to sell, a message reinforced by chief executive David Gill, Real are insistent that the Premier League champions will realise they have no other option by the end of Euro 2008.

As I have said all along - the dream outcome is Ronaldo sitting on the bench at Man U for a year or two. Man U pay his wages but get no benefit.

Next best outcome is a transfer to Real this summer.

Worst case is he stays but we inevitably get the whole circus again next year. cheers

If he stays but says he wanted to leave, I'd make plans to sell him next season. Gives us a fair amount of time to plan for his replacement.

Don't get me wrong, I have no particular sympathy for Man U over this. Ronaldo's had his head turned by the only club who can realistically claim to be bigger than them, just as they did to his when he was in Portugal. And you know Madrid will offer them some ludicrous fee, more than he's worth. So they can't really complain.

Roma In Furious Attack On Sir Alex Ferguson
Roma technical director Bruno Conti has unleashed a furious attack on Sir Alex Ferguson, calling the Manchester United manager a hypocrite after he poached one of Italy’s brightest young talents from the Giallorossi.

Support striker Davide Petrucci is regarded as one of the best young players of his generation, and has been labelled by some as the “new Francesco Totti”.

However as he was still under age, Petrucci had not signed a professional contract with Roma, and Manchester United nipped in to poach the 16-year-old prodigy for a miserly £200,000, offering him £95,000 per year, plus all expenses paid for him to fly home to Italy on a regular basis.

This transfer has infuriated the Calcio community, who have ganged up on Man Utd for stealing the youngster off Roma.

Giallorossi technical director has now launched a ferocious attack on Sir Alex Ferguson, accusing him of double standards, following the manager’s criticism of Real Madrid’s methods in trying to sign Cristiano Ronaldo.

“They complain about Ronaldo and then did the same thing with David,” an absolutely seething Conti told the Gazzetta dello Sport.

“His father Stefano has disappointed me. I will not be told any more lies. As for the boy, I wish him all the best in the world.”

English clubs have long been criticised by foreign clubs for stealing under-age players, many of these coming from Italy.

Reggina’s 15-year-old prospect Vincenzo Camilleri was snapped up by Chelsea in February, Atalanta’s teenage talent Fabio Zamblera by Newcastle Utd, while a few years back Parma-duo Giuseppe Rossi and Arturo Lupoli were signed by Man Utd and Arsenal respectively.

This led Palermo’s outspoken President Maurizio Zamparini to famously brand English team’s as “pirates”.
