Torrente wrote:I have to say that I'm quite worried with the our pre-season. I know that several players have been missing, but that shouldn't mean that we play like a third rate team. Last night was a disgrace. Even before the moron's red card, we had trouble getting out of our own half.

Guti made another stupid challenge that could have gotten him a red, which is the third one in the last 3 friendlies. He also put up another awful performance. Since it was announced that VDV would be signed, Guti has looked disinterested in the field, almost as if he was resigned to go back to the bench. If he's going to act like a baby about it, then that's exactly where he deserves to be.

Torres still looks to be Salgado Part II. He looks like a donkey on the ball and in defense he's a complete coladero. I'm really curious to see how this Opare kid can play, because I don't get any confidence in having Torres be second choice RB.

Baptista once again did nothing and both Robben and Robinho were quite disappointing. Raul and RVN looked like senior citizens, they couldn't have been any slower. I don't remember any of them touching the ball at any stage of the game. If Schuster will go with these two as our strike pair again, we can forget about the CL right now.

VDV looked class when he came on, and let's hope he can handle playing a bit deeper than he's used to because whiny Guti might just have to go back to his favorite spot on the bench. Pepe was also great, as always, and it was good to see him get on the scoresheet.
I wouldnt be too worried about pre season because we were as Cr@p last season and started off playing quite well. but i agree we have been showing some worrying signs from last season where we have problems moving the ball from defence through midfield to attack. he if he insists on using Diarra in midfield then we will continue to have problems because he drags down Guti or whoever he plays with by constantly seeking them out even though they are in a worse position then him. Gago,DLR,Javi Garcia should play in midfield.

Van der Vaart's Valencia shirt stunt certainly makes him look bad now. He clearly just wanted to leave HSV and cared nothing about who he was going to.

    ?!

He wanted to go to Valencia, Real Madrid or Barcelona.

The president of HSV had *promised* him that if one of those clubs came knocking they'd let him go...

So when Valencia indeed came knocking and HSV *refused* to let him go, he didn't roll over and play dead : he fought for what he thought was just.

When it was apparent that the chairman never was gonna make good on his word, VDV resumed playing for HSV without any trouble : he had done what he could and that was all. Within two matches the fans were chanting his name again, because he was leading by example.

I don't know many players who want to leave, get stick by the fans yet still manage to play to their full potential giving 110% on the pitch : VDV did.

So I resent your statement very much EMP.

Another thing : Atletico Madrid made an offer the HSV board was willing to accept, Rafa told them he would not go to that club. So where you get off claiming he'd go to *any* club I don't know.

What I meant was he made it sound like Valencia was the only club he wanted to go to, but then goes to Madrid. Calm down on the resentment Axe: he had a point, it's going to Madrid after making it look like Valencia was the one he wanted that I was commenting on.

He did choose Valencia, but HSV didn't. Not sure how the Madrid transfer came about. Just thought he said he wanted to go to Valencia because he had family ties there and that Valencia was the club he wanted to go to. Whichever club he went to after that raises questions as to why he said all that. Good luck to him. He is a great player and you have done well to get him. He did show great application at HSV, but wearing another club's shirt and then choosing another raises questions as to why he did it.

funny i think heard he was from Catalonia. also i think he said he was a Barca fan some years ago. or that could have been Snejider.
regarding what players say about "this is my dream move" they often will say anything when it is a big club. i dont think it is serious unless they were saying the same before talking about joining the club. players talk Cr@p.

True, but most don't wear another club's shirt while under contract to a different club and then go to a different club the following year. Valencia obviously wasn't the only club he wanted to go to, but he made it sound like that last year.

that is rather unusual though. all i think of is that he just wanted to play in a top club no matter who. allthough i think he claimed that he was barca fan some years ago. really i dont care because talk is cheap. if he shows the will to fight for the club i could care less who he liked before.

Probably he will be loaned out and you will pay half of his wages, unless you sell him for peanuts. That's very similar to what happened to him at Barça.

    REAL READY TO SUE RON
    Laugh

    Madrid want £17million in compensation

    By DAVID HARRISON, 09/08/2008

REAL MADRID are ready to hit Cristiano Ronaldo with a £17million compensation claim for refusing to join them.

The Spanish club are claiming that Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes struck the astonishing deal with them at the start of the summer transfer saga.

Real are adamant they agreed personal terms with the Manchester United star and insisted on the compensation clause if the transfer was not completed.

Spanish media sources, who have become Madrid’s unofficial mouthpiece during the Ronaldo negotiations, are reporting that Real president Ramon Calderon is determined to press ahead with the claim.

Calderon might be prepared to waive compensation if he gets a guaranteed assurance from Ronaldo that he will join them next summer.

But, amazingly, he has left the door open for the Portuguese winger to complete another U-turn before the August transfer window closes.

A Real insider said: “The doors are not closed to things undergoing a U-turn. Until the transfer window closes everything remains in the air.”

That will further enrage United boss Sir Alex Ferguson who has vowed to have no more dealings with the Spaniards.

We should have gotten at least 15 million for Baptista, but I guess 9 million isn't so bad. I wish Baptista well in Roma. He was almost like another Solari for us. Not good enough to be a starter but never complained when put on the bench and was always a positive influence in the dressing room.

So what do people here think Plan B should be?

We've been linked with the likes of Diego, Huntelaar, Villa, Benzema, and Quaresma. We might also get Garay this season for an extra million.

In my view we should keep Robinho no matter what Chelsea offer, get Garay for this year, buy Quaresma and make a huge bid for Villa.

If Villa doesn't work I don't know what we should do. Benzema would cost a fortune and I don't trust Huntelaar (plus a sixth Dutch player is not a good idea).

I agree, an extra million euros shouldn't be a problem. Besides we've only got 3 CB's at the moment, and Metz looked a bit shaky last season.

We still need a RW and a LB, Bernado wants to play Heinze as a CB, which leaves Marcelo who had a good season, but does he have enough experience to play away from home in the CL? And M. Torres who didn't play that well last season, and it seems the coach doesnt have faith in.

Calderon saying VDV is the final signing of the summer is worrying. When we still need about atleast 2 more players.
