    Roy Keane blames Shay Given

The Irishman, who made 65 appearances for the Republic as a player, continued: "If I'd been there in the dressing room after the game, I wouldn't be talking about the handball. I'd focus on why the defenders didn't clear it. They should've cleared it.

"I'd be more annoyed with my defenders and my goalkeeper than Thierry Henry. How can you let the ball bounce in your six-yard box? How can you let Thierry Henry get goal-side of you? If the ball goes into the six-yard box, where the hell is my goalkeeper?

"These are skills and lessons you learn as a schoolboy.

If they or any other league/competition no matter how it's organised come up with rules/decisions UEFA do NOT like, they can take away your places to European compeitions, so it's not pure independence.

edit: think UEFA had to agree on the Welsh clubs in the FA Cups.

Also what a fucking hypocrite, his Ipswich team has one of the worst defences i've ever seen, we scored 3 in 3 minutes against them, and in his post-match interviews he always gives the bangs on about how he saw positives. What an arse!

With do you guys think about the Irish government getting involved?

What were they thinking? become more popular?

Countless -also big- matches have been decided by cheating don't see what makes this one any different. Underserved losses are part of footy.

Not quite true there Kimmy. And relevant for sure...accurate definitly. That's exaclty what i said about Given two weeks ago.

If you don't come for a cross 98 out of 100 keepers catch the average fan doesn't see it as a keeping error. If a striker gets his head on it and Given saves it, it's a world class save. If it's a goal well not much he can do from there. But a better keeper stops it ever happening. It's partly just another reason why Given has an abysmal defensive record wherever the fuck he is.

Manchester United legend and current Ipswich Town boss Roy Keane has issued a withering attack on the FAI following their reaction to Thierry Henry’s handball on Wednesday night. The commotion surrounding the Arsenal legend’s dishonest act has reached fever pitch, however Keane, once a ferocious Premier League opponent of the Frenchman, chose to highlight the hypocrisy of the FAI and the Republic of Ireland’s inability to beat the French when they had the chance. Keane also highlighted his own memories of the FAI and in particular the 2002 World Cup finals when the robust Keane stormed out of the Republic of Ireland’s training camp never to return.
Keane told the press: “I've been amazed at the commotion that's been going for the last few days,”
“I think we're on about Henry's handball - of course he handled it - but I'd focus on why they [Ireland's defenders] didn't clear it.”
“I'd be more annoyed with my defenders and my goalkeeper than Thierry Henry.”
“How can you let a ball bounce in the six yard box? How can you let Thierry Henry get goalside of you?
“And as the ball bounced in the six yard box I'd be saying 'where the hell's my goalkeeper?'“
Keane also emphatically dismissed any notion of the integrity of the game being damaged, claiming instead the FIA should have a look at their own previous indiscretions.
When asked if football had been damaged by an undoubtedly tawdry affair, Keane responded: “No, not one bit.”
“You look over the course of the campaign, Ireland had their chances in the two games. They never took it in the first game, they never performed.”
“I heard a few interviews after the games where the manager was speaking about none of the players got booked. Maybe that was the problem. Maybe they should have got booked in the first game because we stood off France.”
“In the second half we had opportunities to score and we didn't take it.”
“But the usual FAI reaction - 'We've been robbed!', 'the honesty of the game!'”
There was one of the group games, I'm sure it was against Georgia, where Ireland got a penalty and it was one of the worst decisions I've ever seen which changed the whole course of the game.”
“I think Robbie [Keane] scored the penalty and Ireland went on to win it.”
“I don't remember the FAI saying after the game we should have had a replay.”

“John Delaney? He's on about the honesty and integrity of the game. I wouldn't take any notice of that man.”
“People forget the last time Ireland were at the World Cup in 2002. People seem to forget what was going on at that World Cup, and that man's on about honesty.”
“I was one of the players. He didn't even have the courtesy to ring me.”
“He got interviewed and all he said was 'I don't know where he is, he's on the island somewhere I think.'”
“I've been involved with Ireland since I was 15 years of age, and that man didn't even have the decency to make a phone call.”
“I think the Irish supporters probably deserve better, I think their manager and most of their players deserve better but I'm not sure the FAI deserve better.”
    “What goes around comes around.”

Is this Roy Keane? Never thought he would be voice of reason.

Except for the seasons where he doesn't have an abysmal defensive record. scratch You know nothing about Given as a player, or his record, you watch him on MOTD and make snap judgements that are usually wrong. Man City fans are hailing him as the best in the league, why? Because they see him every week for 90 minutes.

    Bingo. To appeal to voters.

As for Keane, he's more liked than disliked here. Saying that Ireland is basically an extenstion of Manchester(Salford) as 7 out of 10 are United fans... so they'll support him no matter what.

Well he's right though. He always said the FAI didn't respect people from Cork...then when he was kicked out at the that world cup nobody called him so i can see why he'll always despise the men there. Steven Ireland also from Cork so could explain that to a degree. I'm sure he wanted Ireland to win though.

Full squad for the upcoming friendly against Spain:

Lloris (Lyon), Mandanda (Marseille), Carrasso (Bordeaux); Boumsong (Lyon), Escude (Sevilla), Evra (Manchester United), Sagna (Arsenal), Rami (Lille), Ciani (Bordeaux), Cissokho (Lyon), Fanni (Rennes); Diarra (Real Madrid), Toulalan (Lyon), Gourcuff (Bordeaux), Ribery (Bayern Munich), Sissoko (Toulouse), Malouda (Chelsea), Cheyrou (Marseille), Ben Arfa (Marseille); Henry (Barcelona), Nicolas Anelka (Chelsea), Govou (Lyon), Remy (Nice), Saha (Everton).

Ben Arfa cheers cheers cheers - knew Domenech will call him up after he refered to him as a genuis 2 weeks ago.

    Cheyrou cheers finally!

Only 1 Arsenal player(Sagna) called up cheers

I understand why Domenech left out Diaby, Gallas and Clichy but i'm baffled at the ommission of Nasri. Yes his form hasn't been great since he came back from injury but he was great vs Sunderland at the weekend. They should be looking to integerate him into the team before the world cup as he's the only direct replacement to Gourcuff they've got.

Clichy won't make the world cup squad if he doesnt get his act up together ASAP. Fullbacks is one area France are overloaded(they've got more depth in that area than any other country). Apart from the execellent Sissoko, they've also got Tremoulinas who is a very good LB, and that's not even mentioning Evra.

Diaby is very unlucky whenever these friendlies come around, should have got far more caps than he has now had it not been for his injury problems. Again he's a player they should be looking to integrate into the team. Lass-Toulalan is a good midfield, and they are individually very good but it's too defensive and not really balanced IMO. It's no wonder France struggle to break down negative teams. Vieira has still not been replaced. Diaby + Diarra or Toulalan would be better IMO.

Saha's there for the first time since November 2006. Currently in much better for than Benzema, weaker team, but playing every week, scoring goals and generally looking very happy being a footballer at the moment. Unlike Benzema...

Quality of french left backs is seriously frightening, they should make a swap for one of Brasik RBs, this would really help both this teams Wink

He's hardly set the place alight in a France shirt before, but it's still an odd omission given he has been pretty much in every squad the past year or so.

Nice to see Sissoko and Saha in the squad, likewise Ben Arfa like you say.

Not sure if I'd bother with Anelka, Govou or Maloudo though.

    And what's happened to Gignac?
