Lets see if Real get Diarra the midfield of Diarra Gago and VDV/Guti/Sneijder can match Liverpool's Mascherano Alonso and Gerrard , Pepe can counter Torres , Skrtel and Carragher will be difficult to beat for Higuain and Huntelaar (Definitely Raul).
I think its a good match though Real miss pace and have a very weak LB but Liverpool doesnt have any great RW to take advantage.

It's definitely a big relief that Liverpool don't have a good RW. I'm not too worried about Riera on the left because Ramos shouldn't have much trouble keeping him under control.

I don't know about that. Riera is a good player when he wants to be allthough he lacks pace but he has the technique and skills to trouble Ramos especially if he doesn't get back up. of course if Riera is left on his own because Benitez tactics it could be hard.Torrente wrote:It's definitely a big relief that Liverpool don't have a good RW. Robben is obviously going to be the key for us. If he is fit then I think we can cause the Liverpool defence problems. If he is not available, we don't have enough pace in attack. It might even be good to have him play on the right and have a go at Dossena or Aurelio and leave Royston or someone else on the left.

Babel = pace - left or right flank
Something to consider, even as a sub

Well i don't really rate Babbel that much allthough he has shown improvement this year i will grant you that. he is too preditable at times and just don't think he has what it takes to play it big on the wings. as a striker that is something else though and he has good shot.

Benitez won't be losing any sleep over this...Ramos' tactics aren't difficult to figure out. Liverpool to go through comfortably, though I'm not expecting an open end-to-end pair of matches.

Lassana Diarra arrival means RM can compete with Liverpool's midfield so that's one less area of worry.

What's so funny? DS is actually right. Diarra and Gago is a much better partnership than Guti and Gago to compete with Pools midfield.
Both are very good at breaking up the play, and both can pass the ball very well.

Diarra hasn't been at the club 2 minutes, how on earth can it be judged as to how he will slot in...
We have 3 very solid and talented central midfield players... Masch, Alonso and Gerrard, that unit is possibly our strongest area on the pitch, an inexperienced newly formed partnership of Gago + Diarra would not faze me...

Comparing that partnership to Guti Gago and you see the improvement without even seeing it on the pitch also Diarra is very energetic type of midfielder which RM lack.Festive Genius wrote:DS wrote:Lassana Diarra arrival means RM can compete with Liverpool's midfield so that's one less area of worry.

The liverpool style of play will definately going to cause RM problems, and pool are early favourites for this one.
But I wouldn't call it comfortable by any means. Its two months to go, with a winter break in between. Form can change, players can change. RM are the most successful side in europe, they can get ready for this.
Lets take this call nearer to the game.

Even if Madrid are in form, Liverpool will at worst be able to shut them down by clogging them in midfield and doing a double marking job on Robben, and at best Torres will grab a counter attacking goal a la Henry at the Bernabeu 3/4 seasons ago.

it would be idiotic to make a prediction at this point. Injuries and form could change dramatically.
It's worth noting that Liverpool have performed better as underdog in their CL games under Rafa.
So Real are definitely favourites for me
