ANDREY ARSHAVIN finally sealed his Arsenal move yesterday — amid concerns over why it happened 24 hours after the transfer window closed.
The £16.9million deal was confirmed at 4.50pm following a day of arguments over the paperwork.
But SunSport has learned that Arshavin’s club Zenit St Petersburg did not have the relevant documents lodged with the FA in time for Monday’s 5pm deadline.
And there were even questions about some of the paperwork submitted by Arsenal. FA and Premier League officials were not convinced the deal was in order and lawyers had to be called in to resolve the dispute.
It was argued by some officials that, as Arsenal had been tracking Arshavin for 228 days, there was no excuse for any deadlines being missed.
The transfer deadline had been extended because of the bad weather but Arsenal were unable to use that as an excuse because Arshavin had already arrived in London on Sunday night.
(yeah, I'm hypocritically taking a Sun article to be gospel truth when it backs up my point )

Re: The Great Arshavin Thread
Nonetheless, can you imagine Wigan being allowed to sign someone a whole day after the transfer window had closed?
Nor can I. One rule for the big clubs spending the sorts of money that upholds the EPL brand, a different rule for the shitmunchers just trying to tread water.

What do you expect? Didnt they sign Gallas an hour after the window closed?

'zackly. There were a few deals being talked about at the end that obviously could not get sorted in time (Pannucci to Hull, Kuranyi to Everton). They would never have been given the leeway Arsenal were.
Translation: we're satisfied that no-one is going to make us prove all the documents were lodged before 5 p.m., and we have a useful cover story for any awkward questions (staff shortages due to snow - chaos!)F365 wrote:

I was hoping for slightly more convincing lies from the FA. I mean, what's the point in having a PR department if not to make it look like the deal was above board?

Yes, and Man U signed Berbatov after the window closed, and I'm sure we could find other examples.
It's all done and dusted now anyways.
Unless Arsenal get into the CL ahead of Villa, or into the Waffa cup ahead of Everton (or whoever else) and they decide to take it to court and prove what we all know, that the deal was not completed in time and therefore should not have been ratified.

He is a fantasy player.
Slight, decent acceleration rather than an out and out sprinter and he shoots for the corner.
RVP is a fantasy player but he is fast and 188cm*
AA is not young either so I'm not convinced he'll be a success.
He is wife isn't too shabby judging by the pic in tonight's Evening Standard and I love the faces he pulls when he scores even though its the sort of thing I would usually hate.
* Note to Konami - not 183cm.
They have Arnautovic at 176cm

Yeh, he doesn't really score simple goals. That said he'll sure as hell improve out unpredictability in the final third which is what is desperately needed at present.

van Persie---Adebayor---Arshavin
That's RVP on the right and AA on the left.
Only thing is, much as I like Ade, I prefer a 2 footed CF in that system so if either of the "wingers" cuts in and divides the FB/CB with their strong foot pass he can finish.

Arshavin is super fast Pierre. He's faster than RVP.

He's stronger and more difficult to knock off the ball than Robinho who has not done bad for City so far.

I don't agree that he is faster than RVP - small people always look faster 'cos their little legs take more steps + there were no blacks in the defence of The Bundesliga side so he's bound to look faster in comparison.
Size isn't just about strength anyway it helps to have a big frame when shielding the ball from defenders.

Re: The Great Arshavin Thread
First of all RVP is just medium paced, Arshavin would destroy him in a 100m race.
It's far more important to know how to use your body than having a big frame. Arshavin can shield the ball well, and has got a very good balance. As I said it difficult to knock him off the ball coz he uses his body so well. Cesc is the same.

You can't use what you haven't got.
Cesc plays in midfield though so is rarely running onto a ball alongside a 6ft 2 defender who may not quite match AA for pace but can ease him off the ball and keep space between the ball and the attacker.

Baptista for example, has got a very huge frame, but It's far more difficult to knock Messi(someone with a smaller frame in comparison) off the ball than him. The difference lies in how they use their bodies.

You don't need to "knock" Messi off the ball you just have to get your body in between him and the ball at the right time as Arbeloa 2 seasons back and United's defenders did last season.
You watch Messi playing week in week out against defenders who are physically way inferior to those in EPL.

Cesc regularly goes for 50/50 balls with DMs/TMs and wins a fair share of those. His small frame benefits him at times coz he regularly wins free kicks in the process.

Btw Arshavin won't often face the possibility of racing for a ball with a 6 ft defender coz we mostly play the ball to feet, hardly into space as ManU often do(we used to do).
