I was a bit confused, one of the gooners were claming to be paying around £10M yesterday.

My understanding was that the change in format will be in place for at least a couple of seasons. I think rather than strip the top leagues of their fourth place, it's just made harder for the fourth team to progress now. I think the qualifying ties now pit the fourth/third place sides against each other, and makes it easier for champions to progress through qualification. So you could get teams like Arsenal (hopefully!), Roma, and Valencia drawing each other in qualification.

Arsenal vs Roma and Valencia would be a great tie! Especially if Roma and Valenica were allowed to field 22 players.

Well we'd have to give them a 2 goal head start to stand a chance now that we have Arshavin.

I believed that Platini announced that they had finally changed it so 3 teams would only enter. I gues the dispute is when this will finally be in motion. I remember reading that it was after this season.

Mu understanding was similar to yours but slightly more negative in that you get the 4th placed EPL/Serie A/La Liga side knocking out the 3rd place from France, Germany, etc to get in. And you get more shit teams from random countries getting into the group stages leading to easier qualification for the bigger teams. The last 16 from then on will always be the same last 16 until the end of time.

Affirmative action at its best ok

    Arshavin: Heading to Arsenal
Zenit St Petersburg have confirmed Arsenal have signed Andrei Arshavin.

The Russian's on-off move to Emirates Stadium
dominated transfer deadline day with the deal not being confirmed by
the close of play on Monday.Gunners boss Arsene Wenger told Sky Sports News on Monday that the deal would go through and was being held up as it was yet to be ratified by the Premier League. The
Premier League is expected to finalise the paperwork on Tuesday to
allow Arshavin to seal his switch to North London and Zenit claim the
move has gone through in a deal worth more than £12million."Both
clubs have managed to complete the deal. Arshavin will play for Arsenal
from now on," Zenit spokesman Alexei Petrov told Russian television."The
conditions of the contract are very favourable for Zenit," Petrov said.
"The value of the deal is much more than £12million."Arshavin is
believed to have agreed a three-and-a-half-year deal at Arsenal and
could make his debut in this weekend's North London derby with
    Tottenham.

    Announcement

Arshavin revealed on his personal website that the deal should be officially announced later on Tuesday. The Russian schemer also revealed he will wear the No.23 shirt at Arsenal once the deal finally goes through.Asked
if he is now an Arsenal player, Arshavin said: "I think so. The
negotiations came to a close and there will be details [on Tuesday]."Now I can say only one thing - that if I play for Arsenal, it will be at number 23."

Good player, though bit stupid Arsenal signed him. At his best on the place of either Nasri or RVP..the only two players at Arsenal that are performing this year!

I dont see Arsenal finish higher then 4th tbh, that team is so unbalanced its insane.

Great signing for Arsenal, doesn't need to make much adjustment to suit Wengerball but I'm not sure if he's going to make much of a difference right now.

However, it's funny listening to a lot of Arsenal fans/fans of other teams whine about "It's taking Arshavin/player X so long to come here", when the second a player wants to leave them, it's all "there's no loyalty, player power is too much" Rolling Eyes

    ok

If it's taken till this time today to sort it, the paperwork clearly wasn't all satisfactorily submitted before the deadline - and staff shortages due to snow had nothing to do with it.

There are basically two deadlines. One for all normal deals, and a second, later, one for deals involving big name players moving to teams at the top (Berbatov, Ashley Cole & Gallas, Arshavin).
