Yes it is, but don't believe the FA cup winners get cl places and that was just something that was thrown out there as an idea.President Darkie wrote:Tweedle wrote:If we came 5th, I think Ade would certainly want to leave.
Aside from that, I think we might be able to hang onto our top names for one more season. If we didn't finish in the top four again then they'd be off.
Isn't this season the last one where 4th place gets you into the CL? I thought they were bringing in a CL place for the FA cup winners next season.

Really? I thought that was just rumoured?
Would the FA cup runner up get the CL spot in the winner had qualifed by the league?
no they were going to only give 3 places to the EPL, so it would have been the top 2 plus whoever wins the Champions League.

I though Monsieur CrackPot had officially announced it.
As I remember, if the winner had already qualified then the 4th spot would go to the 4th placed league side. Could be wrong.

I meant regarding the part that this is the last year where 4 places are given to Cl before next year it will only be top 3.Tweedle wrote:Super Madrid wrote:Yes it is, but don't believe the FA cup winners get cl places and that was just something that was thrown out there as an idea.President Darkie wrote:Tweedle wrote:If we came 5th, I think Ade would certainly want to leave.

Glad to see he's fucked over his beloved Serie A.
Wouldn't be surprised if he somehow found them a way of getting a few extra places.

no FIFA bottled it. It was never going to the FA Cup, just that the EPL would only have 3 teams, they were going to do the same with Italy and Spain too until they realised just how much money they would lose, and all the fears of a Super European League.

No, now 3 teams directly qualify for the group stages and the 4th one has to play more qualifying round, I think this will take place this season.

This season it is like DS said. Top 3 will go directly while the fourth one gets a qualifier place. Next year the fourth place will be removed for Italy and Spain aswell.

Platini's clearly got some agendas to resolve though. He HATES the EPL and loves everything French or Italian.
I don't know why he doesn't just ban us from Europe again. Its all a bit too easy at the moment anyway.

Re: The Great Arshavin Thread
Don't know and im not sure they have accounted for that yet. My gues would be that it is easier to get a direct spot not for smaller clubs.Tweedle wrote:Super Madrid wrote:This season it is like DS said. In the end it isn't that bad really. Sure we lose the fourth of Italy,England,Spain but that isn't such a massive drop anyway. It helps give some more small clubs a chance and most importantly imo is that it helps the Uefa cup become better. Allthough they should give the winner of the Uefa cup a CL place aswell. This way they get two cash cows to milk and us who love football get two competition.
Tweedle
Platini was only able to win because unlike Johanson(the previous president) he was not an advocate for the big clubs but ran on a campaign that promised the smaller countries more power and money more divided. He is like South American socialist who wants to spread the wealth but the overclass ain't having it.

Re: The Great Arshavin Thread
No, that's not the case. Three go directly into the CL proper, and the fourth placed side goes through qualifying:
2009/10 Format
• The 2009/10 access list has been changed according to the following principles: 22 teams (21 teams + the titleholder) qualify directly for the group phase instead of 16. The three national associations with the highest UEFA coefficient ranking will each have three teams who gain automatic entry to the group stage, with the countries ranked 4 to 6 in the standings having two automatic qualifiers and the associations ranked 7 to 12 having one.
• As from the 2009/10 season onwards, there will be four qualifying rounds (including a play-off round), to be played in home-and-away ties, to complete the 32 participants in the UEFA Champions League group stage. There are two qualifying routes; the Champions Path and the Best-placed Path.
• Champions Path: The first qualifying round comprises three two-legged ties involving the champions of the countries ranked 48 to 53 in UEFA competition. The winners of those ties progress to the second qualifying round where they are joined by the champions of the 31 countries ranked 16 to 47 (except Liechtenstein). The victorious sides from those 17 ties join the champions from the associations ranked 13 to 15 in the third qualifying round, with the winners of those ten pairings reaching the play-off round. These five play-off ties will take place on a home-and-away basis with the winners qualifying for the UEFA Champions League group stage.
• Best-placed path: The third-placed side from the sixth-ranked member association, plus the runners-up from the associations ranked 7 to 15, start the competition in the third qualifying round. The winners of these five ties progress to the play-off round, where they are joined by the fourth-placed sides from the associations ranked 1 to 3 and the third-placed teams from the associations ranked 4 and 5. The victorious teams from the five play-off ties qualify for the UEFA Champions League group stage.
• Teams from the Champions Path and the Best-Placed Path cannot meet in UEFA Champions League qualifying.
• The losing team from each of the UEFA Champions League third qualifying round ties will go into the UEFA Europa League play-offs.

that's what I thought
there were a lot of noises about taking the 4th place away from England, Spain and Italy but FIFA got paranoid about G14 and realised that they would lose about £400billion if they dropped Liverpool, Inter and Barcelona in favour of Lille, Halmstads and Cork City.

So far it has been proven that next season will consist of the top 3 and perhas a fourth if the team qualifies. That is what I said before was it not?Tweedle wrote:So basically supermadrid and Saints are talking shite?
What is important though is that after this season there will only be 3 places to be fought for if im not mistaken. You can check this out but im quite sure because it fits in well with the main promise Platini made when he was elected. Also explains why suddenly the big 3 leagues are getting one more direct place then before. You are welcome to check it out but im quite sure.
Edit: What Sheffield Gunner posted was for next seasons Cl which is the same as I have been saying but it doesn't talk about the following year.
