Re: PFA Player of the Year Nominees
As I remembered it he delivered right away when he got the chance. Think he certainly deserves his nomination but perhaps not to win it.borocooper wrote:Evans has been pretty good. Dont know what you're all up in arms. Its always like this..bit of big club bias, the votes will have been taken during the time he was just coming in to the side and on form..etc
Ireland should win, but I wouldnt be surprised if it goes to Lennon.
Is it me or has the press somehow managed to turn Gerrard into Liverpools player of the season? I thought it was Xabi Alonso and that was the feeling I got from the Liverpool fans on here or what?
I think Lampard/Alonso should be on the list. Does anyone have a better list and is there any contender outside the top 4.

Re: PFA Player of the Year Nominees
Abysmal shortlist - my guess for explanation is that if this vote came at the time Utd were in their clean sheet run and looked surefire for the league, everyone thought they'd best vote for a Utd player - and the lack of outstanding choices split the vote multiple ways. No way in hell VDS, Giggs should be there and Ronaldo is questionable. I'll accept Ferdinand & Vidic, as their strength has been in the defence for much of the season.kas wrote:Vidic
Ferdinand
Giggs
Van der Sar
Ronaldo
Gerrard
I think the Premier League's footballers are collectively taking the piss.
Lampard should be, absolutely. Plus Torres (he's done FAR more than Giggs, for example) and Alonso. Those 3, Gerrard, Ferdinand, Vidic would make a reasonable 6.

This is indeed a joke to have 2 players who have started so few games to be in with a shout.
As much as I'd love to see Lennon win it, got to agree that Ireland deserves it

Ireland's the only choice for YP. Young was only good upto Xmas, Lennon only really took off since Xmas, Agbonlahor's been inconsistent throughout, and Evans/Rafael are only nominated for getting in the Utd team - haven't played enough to be serious candidates.

Fellaini's a shout for being nominated for YP, but not the main one. Cahill, Jagielka, Arteta should be ahead of him from Everton alone.

Fellaini been punished for nearly every foul he's committed this season. If the refs had done their job properly and sent off Vidic against Arsenal & Villa, he wouldn't be mentioned at all.

So if Vidic had been punished for everything he wouldnt be mentioned but because Fellaini has been punished he is mentioned.

You've got a case for the last two, but not Cahill IMO. Even when he was operating as a striker.

Divvn't be daft. He clearly means if players were treated fairly then Vidic would be seen as something of a dirty and clumsy player and not the defensive rock his PR would have us believe, and hence Fellaini would be much closer to these lists and awards.

Okay, imagine how different their respective impacts and media/fans/pundits perception of them would be had Screech not been suspended at all this season (picked up only 3-4 bookings), and Vidic had been correctly sent off 3 times instead of the just the one time...
I've already said Rooney was my Man Utd "representative" anyway. It's been more of a team/referee effort from them this year, not one player has really had to carry them.

If we're doing hypotheticals, how much would Fellaini have even been noticed if he didn't have a supremely unlikely Afro? I suggest not much, at least not until his recent goalscoring run.

If there was any doubt about the media bias, surely the Man U fans will admit it now? Van Der Sar hasn't even been in the top 5 keepers this season and Giggs has played a handful of games. I still don't get why they have these awards, all they are for is boosting egos and sponsorship deals.

the closest the Manc have to a thoughtful, considered poster is DS, and he went AWOL after the 1-4 so don't expect any sense from that lot for the rest of the season. We've just got Batman cheerleading/gloating, Spanky's blind bias and Lrd saying "Who cares?" to look forward to.

so if Fellaini hadnt been punished properly, but Vidic had been..Fellaini would be seen as the best player. Is this the point we're making?
What if they'd both been punished properly? Both as shit as each other?

Even though these awards are voted by players (who can be swayed by media like most people of course) I think it's more a top 4 bias than a Man United one. Plus when these where voted on we looked nailed on for the league and with great shots of winning all the other titles.
That's without mentioning the fact there's not really that many outstanding contenders besides Gerrard from the rest of the league.
Lampard, Alonso even Fellani have all been good but hardly outstanding. Not like previous seasons when you had a Ronaldo or a Henry playing out of their skins.

I think Lampard and Alonso have been better than Giggs and Ronaldo, who where hardly outstanding whilst you racked up your continuous 1-0 wins.
