    Longevity
There will be many arguments about the rights and wrongs of Ryan Giggs being crowned the PFA Player of the Year, but Mediawatch will simply say this:

Darren Anderton made more starts than him this season. And he retired in December.

Do you think the united players will also rip the piss out of him for this ?

He must know he doesn't deserve it but has to put on a brave face for the public

It shows how short-term the award is...clearly the players all voted in that spell in late Jan/early Feb after Giggs had had one good game in the cup, Man Utd's defence was in it's clean sheet run (hence Evans, Vidic, Ferdinand + VDS) and Villa were at their highest (hence Young + Agbonlahor). Ireland probably just hadn't had a stand-out game for a couple of weeks, so got forgotten.

Seriously, if they were voting today, the six would have been Arshavin, Ronaldo, Rooney, Gerrard (if they can remember back as far as before his injury), Torres and Lampard. And Macheda would've been YPOTY

    Ashley Young is 23

When does he stop being classed as young (please refrain from any clever jokes)

    Wayne Rooney is also 23

Will everyone have a hissy fit if Rooney wins the Football Writers' Association Footballer of the Year?

Why would they? Right now Rooney is the best player in the world as he was last season.

I think Gerrard should win, but Rooney winning wouldn't be outrageous. It certainly wouldn't be as pathetic and embarrassing as Giggs winning.

Yeh, exactly what Kimbo has said. Rooney winning would be at the very least, deserved. Unlike Ryan '12' Giggs

I'd pick Gerrard over Rooney because he's been more consistent throughout the season, though Rooney has been very good since Christmas and had a great patch early on.
