Anyway, both those goals needed an element of luck. Adebayor's was more impressive because you need great technique and agility to pull off a move like that plus i also thought the pass from cesc and control from ade were both very good.

I produced an essentially identical example, of a goal which required a lot of skill to do but which most people doubt the player thought through before he did it. No strawman, because I didn't make out that Macheda's unintentional goal proved that Adebayor's was unintentional. I was using it illustratively.

If you're going to get into accusations of logical fallacies then at least learn what they are first. I've told you this before, so you don't have any excuses.

The thing is the Macheda is example isn't identical, yet you brought it up, and then knocked it down - strawman argument.

Only if by knocking it down I claimed to have knocked down your argument, which I didn't. You're getting confused between logic and rhetoric.

Technically, you could argue the two goals have nothing to do with one another, in which case it isn't a strawman, it's a red herring...

Why did you mention it then?

the two goals do have something to do with eachother - they are both goals.

Are you going to disappear from the board for a few weeks now, like the last time you got upset on here? Don't cry!

I thought you'd have realised that mine was in (half) jest... I'm suprised and dissapointed that you of all people didn't pick up such subtle hints.

It's the continent card, not the race card, BTW. Henry scores that goal and most footy forums go into meltdown Ale

In truth, I was referring to Rape Parlour's responses and didn't think you were being entirely serious.

However, since you've brought it up - it was a beautiful goal, and to say it wasn't intentional I don't mean it was an unintentional fluke, just that it wasn't premeditated. He tried something on instinct and it came off beautifully. If that's the sort of goal you most admire then of course it's the best of the round.

As to the continent issue, you're right I suppose. Ronaldo did that cheeky backheel last year and it was an instinctive flick with none of the agility of Adebayor's strike yet it got wanked over something chronic. It's not that I think Adebayor's in any way a bad player, I just think he's not up there with Eto'o and Drogba as yet in the very top bracket of strikers. Still, he's >>> Henry.

Surely if it is has been done instinctly then it is on purpose?

On purpose, yes. Intentionally, in a premeditated fashion, no.

The interview I saw, Adebayor said he was trying to trap the ball differently and that when it presented itself like that he just went for it. I don't think he thought through the move before he did it. You might say this actually makes it a better goal. I wouldn't, but you could say that in showing such a great ability to improvise without having to think it through he showed more natural talent than any of the other goals.

If someone had said that, instead of turning this into some Arsenal/African/Darkie issue then much of the nonsense of the last couple of pages wouldn't have had to take place. I'm in no way saying it was a fluke, because Adebayor's shown that sort of agility and reactions before.
