I don't think him leaving is necessarily a bad thing for Hamburg. The man isn't a winner, although they could maybe have benefited from another year under him.
Also, does anyone think that the Magath/English approach will be adopted by more German clubs in the future, or will the separation of duties remain the status quo?
Jol seems to be able to win over the fans' affection easily
he did it at Spurs , he did it at HSV
but I agree
he was a flop at Spurs and he was a flop at HSV
some of his tactics and team-selections were breathtakingly inept
SZ now reports that one of the disagreements between the board and Jol was also over Axel's favourite player, the Troch
HSV wanted to make him THEIR FACE and build a team around him
Jol would have been happy to LET HIM GO
as for the Magath/English approach
it was A HUGE success at Wolfsburg under Magath
his successor, Veh, will enjoy the same powers: ie Wolfsburg will continue to keep the English model
at Schalke Magath will also be responsible for EVERYTHING
so that's the SECOND club: and I predict Magath will win the league within two to three years
at Frankfurt the manager is also responsible for the sporting and commercial side
we will see whether it spreads to other clubs, I think it might
one of the main reason against it though is that the position of sporting director usually provides a job for an OLD BOY
see Nerlinger/Hoeness at Bayern or soon Zorc at Hertha
but if Magath is successful at Schalke and Veh manages to keep Wolfsburg in the top 4, other will copy it
