I think Pog is a decent striker, but nothing special. He's overhyped imo and Stuttgart could have done better, and 4m per year is far too expensive.

Well, maybe he will prove me wrong, and make me look like an idiot once more, but until then I stick with opinion about Kuranyi reloaded. Wink

Er, I did read page 19 of course, seemed a pretty simplistic and unjustified dismissal to me, but I guess we'll have to agree to disagree...

Pogrebyak and Hleb for less than massive transfer fees seems to me excellent business for a club of Stuttgart's size.

What I said, what the Bayern fan said or both? Wink

Well, Stuttgart paid 4.8 Mio for a decent striker, who only had 6 month contract left. Now he earns 4 Mio Euro per year, that's pretty much the highest wages a player can earn in the Bundesliga outside of Munich.

I said that Hleb is a great signing, but Stuttgart didn`t buy him, an his wages will probably be a new record for Stuttgart and for the Bundesliga (aside from Bayern Munich). However Hleb is at least surely one of the very best Bundesliga players now, unlike Pog... Whistle

Seems like Lars Bender (U19 European Champion, captain) is going to move to Leverkusen a year earlier as planned. His contract in München (1860) ends next year, but he wants to move now.

I rate him very highly, and it's a pity that Werder didn't show more serious interest in him earlier. He's actually exactly the type of player we need, would be a brilliant long term replacement for Frings. Sooner or later he will be national team starter material, I'm pretty optimistic in his case.

Bender and Kroos in the same midfield could be interesting next season. Toni Kroos looked excellent in the preparation for Leverkusen.

Hleb: "Mourinho called me and told me that he wants me to play for Inter, Wolfsburg were seriously interested also. I was close to moving to Inter, but Stuttgart's interest was the strongest. They had been interested in signing me for a long time, we always stayed in contact."

"I wan to play football and have fun. Last season was difficult for me, because I never knew if I was going to play or not. That's why this season is going to be the most important in my career."

"Stuttgart can win the Bundesliga, we have a strong team."

The league's top assister last season. Quality player, and the 'brain' of Wolfsburg's game.

Wolfsburg did very well keeping their key players (grafite, Misimovic and Dzeko). Good to see that nowadays.

Which players did they buy this summer?

Bayern are still seriously interested in Chelsea's Bosingwa, as Hoeneß confirms.

    http://www.kicker.de/news/fussball/bundesliga/startseite/513046/artikel_Bosingwa-bleibt-ein-Thema.html

Should they manage to sign him, this will likely mean that Lahm will move back to the left side. Would likely have consequences for the national team, too.

And according to van Gaal, Bosingwa won't come to Bayern Munich.

Elm looked very good in the U21 Euros, wouldn't mind us signing him as a replacement for the players we hopefully are going to sell in the coming weeks. Well, you can hope...

    Allofs: We won't sell Sanogo

    http://www.kicker.de/news/fussball/bundesliga/startseite/513223/artikel_Werder-haelt-an-Sanogo-fest.html

I don't know what to think about this. AS St. Etienne wanted to sign him for a while, we wanted to sell, but since we are lacking forwards these days, thanks to Allofs' wonderful planning, we need him and hence keep him. He did well in the preparation and the first competitive matches, but knowing Sanogo, he'll likely start playing shit again once the second half of the season starts.

Knowing that things don't look exactly great as far as the Pizarro transfer is concerned either, this looks like another wasted season. If all this wasn't so avoidable, it wouldn't piss me off so much.

Allofs said in a recent interview that the management, which means him and Schaaf, should be judged by the results this season. He said that he believes our squad to be strong enough already to make it to the top 5 in the league. I seriously hope that for once, he will be held responsible for that should things don't work out.

On the contrary actually. We're the financially most healthy club in the league, we always have a surplus. We have always been 'tight on money', the hanseatic business philosophy, although it needs to be said that we pay too high wages to players who don't really deserve it. Our wage bill is one of the highest in the league, despite not being in the CL this season.

It's not the lack of spending that annoys me, it's the wrong priorities, the lack of balance. I don't want us to spend big and waste money, I want us to spend our money wisely, like we used to do in not so distant past.

What is the source for this? Klaus Allofs told German media yesterday that Werder intends to buy (not loan) Pizarro in the coming days / weeks, but it may take until August 31st. And it's not absolutely sure that it will happen, that's why there supposedly is a 'plan B' if it doesn't.

Bundesliga summer transfers update August 18th:

    http://www.transfermarkt.de/de/wettbewerb/L1/1-bundesliga/transfers/transferuebersicht.html

Bayern still the highest net spenders (incoming - outgoing transfers), followed by HSV, Wolfsburg and Hoffenheim. Stuttgart with the biggest transfer surplus, followed by Werder and Hertha.

As expected after the Pizarro transfer, Boubacar Sanogo moves to AS St. Etienne. Werder supposedly get €4m for him, a good deal I reckon, if you consider that we supposedly paid "less than €5m" for Pizarro.

    http://www.transfermarkt.de/de/news/30613/werders-sanogo-wechselt-zu-st-etienne-.html

Hope we sell the dead wood, and invest the money in a proper DM and fullback, or a defensive allrounder who can play on both positions.
