I read in a preview to the tournament that he played as a defensive midfielder in the qualifying stages.

Why is De Ceglie playing in midfield, thought he was a left-back?

The most interesting game of the opening round this. ok

I'm pretty sure Kacar has played CB a fair few times as well.

As for De Ceglie, I'm sure one of the Serie followers will know a bit more, but I think he is a LWB of sorts, and is often employed in midfield at Juve.

He can play both, LB and LW... these days, he usually plays as a winger, tho i prefer him as an attacking LB.

Surprised that Abate is on the bench, rather see him play than De Ceglie in the midfield.

Italy playing well, but not taking their chances... serbia are very well organised, balotelli is heavily marked - not able to do his usual.

Serbian keeper Brkic is having a great game!

Quite an enjoyable first half. Been a fair bit of quality play in both sides, but equally, both teams have defended well.

Brochetti has probably been the standout imo. De Ceglie has also been energetic.

So he can fuck off for all I care....as long as we get paid big time Very Happy

Balotelli IMO is the most talented young Italian player - has every attribute required, specially for a support striker. Also the experience at this young an age at the highest level with Inter.... the only thing holdng him back a bit is his attitude. Thats the reason Santon (also 18, who debuted for Inter a year after Balotelli) is in the Azzurri squad in South Africa, and Balotelli is here. Talent wise, Balotelli is better than any striker the Azzurri have in the confed squad (perhaps apart from Rossi & Iaquinta).

Bocchetti, the commentators keep gettin his name wrong.

De Ceglie is so much like a young Maldini, he brings back nostalgic memories.... he should be playing LB, with Criscito in the central defence!!

Giovinco is looking good too... the only players underperforming are Acquafresca, Balotelli and Cigarini so far.

Good strikers need to be a bit of a bastard/c*nt. What he needs to get rid off is picking up too many cards. Don't know what he's like off the pitch. The right mind set is key.

Berg can be a c**t too. He'll get there. Top striker.

I'm worried when a striker is too nice. Like Bergy early on in his carreer. Or Castaignos (Holland & Feyenoord u17 striker, who's freaking amazing) wish he was less of a choirboy.
