I bet the club already made a few bucks from the official presentation of Kaka broadcasts around the world. Even if not, it is a huge positive advertisement.Super De La Red wrote:Jaime already answered the first question. I wasn't saying that Ronaldo or Kaka can get the money Beckham did. My point was that there is certainly some truth to what Perez said that some players are investments in a way. I think people get confused regarding the third point which is the idea that Perez is fixed on shirt sales. That is certainly one part but I think even important is that he can demand more from Tv deals, sponsors and the likes plus he gets 50% of their image rights. The club was doing so well financially that even under Calderon the club was making a lot of money even though they were constantly going out in the last 16 in CL.DS wrote:Perez left you in debt, so if Beckham was that popular where did the debt came from, 2ndly Beckham was a phenomena, none of the current players have got his popularity, 3rdly surely only one of these players will get that, do you believe that fans will go mad and buy every Madrid's superstar jersey.
Perez might not understand how to build a team but he knows how to make money so im not concerned about the money or the financial situation the club is in. What worries me is that biggest problem of the last 4 years which is a creative central midfielder still hasn't been sovled.

I have serious doubts whether Beckham got any really serious money for Madrid, at least not in the order what people here sometimes mention. OK, they got 50% of the image rights, but only for new contracts and Beckham already had all his existing main sponsorship contracts, which he owned 100%.
Look at the turnover of Real Madrid in the last 10 years. It hasn't jumped up that much when the Galacticos came and neither has it come down after they left. The only reason Madrid was in surplus when Perez first left was the sale of the training grounds.

We got upwards of 15m euro for one friendly in Japan with Beckham. I bet in one Asian tour alone we made enough to pay for his signing. You can refute all you want but if you look at our revenues there is a huge spike after we signed Zidane.

Your either in denial or delusional. I think the 50% applies to all endorsements whether old or new, but regardless at RM he signed a £50m deal with Gillette. So in essence he paid his transfer fee then and there.

fair enough he got you some money, but people here talk about 200M€+.
Your turnover did increase with the galacticos considerably, but it was higher in 2008 than it ever was. Without any of the galacticos. Do you think you can add to that again as much with these new players? And all at the same time, surely the effect cannot be simply cumulative?
Forbes, by the way, say the deal with Gillette was worth 9M$ over 3 years. They also said: Real Madrid controls the image rights of its players and shares the revenue with them. This policy applies only to new contracts--the team grandfathered in preexisting contracts for Zidane and Brazilian striker Ronaldo, another of Real Madrid's galácticos.
The same was true for Beckham, who licensed his image rights to his former employer under an arrangement designed to offset weak British legal protections. In the U.K., celebrities' image rights are covered by trademark--not the stronger commercial property law, as they are in the U.S. and some continental European countries.

That was down to the new TV contract that we signed though...and I believe that part of the reason we were able to get such a deal is because of that period between 2000-2004. People have been referring to us as the 'galacticos' long after Ronaldo left...even though we've been sh!t.

I mean CM is one of the two glaring holes in our side at the moment so it would make sense. Supposedly he was having a meeting with Rafa this week. But who knows. I mean this Benzema thing, although there was the odd report we were in for him, has really come together out of nothing in the last 24 hours so I guess we just have to wait and see.

Bayern Munich are in the press every day begging Real Madrid to make an offer for Ribery. I'd say that was more likely than Alonso, who may need to be tapped up over a year, Ronaldo-stylee.
But who knows. If Real decide to buy a whole new team this summer then I'd bid £80m for Alonso and Mascherano.
What's the deal with Madrid's 'spare' players then? Are they going to flog them off cheap or let them rot in the hope that Man City bid £30m for each of them?
The latter option is certainly a possibility, albeit a risk.

All the Dutch to whom? Real sells, but who is buying? That is the question.
Going by the interviews I read, the Dutchies don't seem to be willing to leave, they want to stay in Madrid.

don't think they are really trying to get rid of Pepe or Marcelo either, are they?
What's the status on the oldies then: Salgado and Guti in particular. Is Salgado still the back up at right back?
Are you going for another left back or is the back-up Drenthe or Heinze?

Michel Salgado - Apparently has a fat contract waiting for him in the UAE and the club would be willing to give him a free transfer so it's just a matter of whether he would accept or not.
Mahamadou Diarra - Supposedly Inter and Juve want him but we are asking for €15m but neither want to offer more than €10m. I think that some negotiating can be done and he will leave.
Javier Saviola - SOLD: €5m to Benfica
Wesley Sneijder - Was being linked with Bayern earlier in the month but at the moment all is quiet on that front.
Arjen Robben - No word on him. There was a rumour linking him with Inter but I didn't really believe that Mourinho would want him back. He's apparently not interested in City or Tottenham who were, according to the press, preparing offers.
Royston Drenthe - Close to moving on loan to Fiorentina. In fact, the loan part is settled but the option to buy clause is still being negotiated. Fiorentina want to set it at €7m but Madrid want it to be €10m.
Gabriel Heinze - Supposedly Liverpool, Tottenham, PSG, and another club that escapes me at the moment are interested.
Ruud van Nistelrooy - Both Tottenham and Blackburn have been reported to have interest.
Klaas-Jan Huntelaar - Supposedly we were offering him to Lyon as part of the Benzema deal but the dutchman was not interested in France. Today there was a report that Milan is interested. Before that Tottenham and Juve were linked with him.
Rafael van der Vaart - Linked with a move back to the Bundesliga, both Bayern and Werder Bremen have been mentioned. He and his father claim that Pellegrini loves him and he is going to stay but who knows...
Javi García - Thought he might go to a team in la liga but there have been no rumours at all so maybe he'll stay in the end.
Jerzy Dudek - There was a report that we had extended his contract but there has been nothing official and today Marca listed him as out of contract so his status is in the air.

@Hem fet... & toonh
At the beginning of the summer it was pretty much agreed that Casillas, Sergio Ramos, Pepe, Lass, Higuain, and Raul would be part of the next project no matter what. They were not for sale under any circumstances. There are some that are definitely for sale (see above) and then there others that will most likely stay (e.g. Marcelo and Gago) the club is not actively trying to sell them but I think if a really good offer came they would look at it.
Guti looks to be staying. Valdano has a lot of faith in him as he was the manager at the time when Guti first broke through. Florentino has always had a soft spot in his heart for Guti as well. Plus nobody else wants him. If he gets his act together he can still have a role in the team, he still has quality but his attitude needs to change.

I'd keep Robben personally; with him the argument has always been his fitness. He's got the quality, unlike most of the other players on the list. I think Florentino's idea was if we can get C. Ronaldo and a good offer comes for Robben then we could sell him and bring in some cash. But Robben isn't going to go to a UEFA Cup team so unless a team such as Liverpool or Man Utd or Inter or Milan want him then he'll probably stay.
I'd keep Javi Garcia as well he's not bad for a backup.
The rest can f*ck off as far as I'm concerned.

Michel Salgado - Sell. He's old and despite trying hard, he's done.
Mahamadou Diarra -I would sell but I'm not averse to keeping him on.
Wesley Sneijder - I'd like to see him stay because I quite like him as a player and he's got the right attitude to fight for a place. If a good offer (20M and up) comes in I'd let him go though.
Arjen Robben - If a good offer comes in I'd sell. If we can't get more than 22M for him I'd keep him.
Royston Drenthe - Sell.
Gabriel Heinze -Sell.
Ruud van Nistelrooy - Sell. I'm thankful for what he's done for the club but we're starting a new project and I don't think there's space for him.
Klaas-Jan Huntelaar - Sell. There's just no room for him.
Rafael van der Vaart - Sell. It's a shame because I thought he could've been great for us but it never worked out.
Javi García - Indifferent.
Jerzy Dudek - Release. There's got to be a cheaper backup out there.

With the players we've signed so far this is what I would go with:
----------------------------Casillas/Adan/Felipe
S. Ramos/Torres----Albiol/Garay----Pepe/Metzelder----?????/Marcelo
----------------Lass/Gago/J. Garcia-----?????/Parejo
------------------------------Kaka/Guti
Higuain/Raul-----------Benzema/Negredo-----------C. Ronaldo/Robben

I forgot to add that I'd sell Guti. For me he's too inconsistent, too lazy, too immature, and too old for the aforementioned traits to change. Also it seems as if Arbeloa is more or less a done deal.
Given who we've signed this is what I'd do with the squad:
-------------------------------Casillas/Adan--------------------------------
Ramos/Torres---------Pepe/Metz-------Albiol/Garay----Arbeloa/Marcelo
-------------------Lass/Gago-------------CM/Sneijder--------------------
Higuain/Sneijder------------Kaka/Sneijder/Raul---------Ronaldo/Robben/Marcelo

If you want to keep Sneijder as backup for Kaka that is one thing but don't pretend that he can play on the wing or as CM because those experiments have already failed numerous times.

They aren't ideal positions for him but if injuries happen, he'd have to fill in. In those positions he isn't starting quality for RM but you can't have every possible thing covered and in emergencies I don't see why he can't be put there. How many clubs really are two deep in every position?
