Lee Cattermole is a piece of shit. If he ends up in the CL it would be embarrassing for English football.

Re: Liverpool FC 09/10
we wont get anyone decent from Real Madrid in part exchange, last time they gave us Nunez I can't remeber the guy Benitez actually wanted but despite not being in their plans they wouldn't release him.
Even if we were to get one of their half-decent fringe players, Real would want them included at their full market value so we wont be getting any bargains.
I think maybe Alonso should stay.

Don't worry COTR, Heinze is close to signing for Marseille.
And I think you could do worse than having Sneijder (or VDV considering he may be cheaper and less wanted at Madrid) as the backup for Gerrard in his current position. Against easy teams, just play Gerrard in CM and Sneijder/VDV as the AM. Easy.

Benayoun is proving to be a good enough player for that role but an extra option wouldn't hurt
Worst case scenario is Gerrard moving back into centre mid and breaking up the best strike partnership in the league.
I also think maybe alonso should be forced to stay

Actually Real rejected a bit from Marseille! If Rafa wants Heinze, then he will get him It would be an awesome day! Getting rid of Heinze and purchasing Alonso!

No, we accepted Marseille's bid! But at the first try they couldn't agree to personal terms with Heinze. Greedy bastard!

Really gutted about the entire situation though I did feel it was somewhat inevitable. Noone comes out of this well. Apart from Lucas!
If he's such a "fundimental part of their project", Madrid can fucking cough up the money the filthy bastards.
He really is irreplaceable

Re: Liverpool FC 09/10
Whatever happens now our midfield is weakened. If Alonso really wants to go you have to let him go, there's no point delaying it for a season. He's not going to perform as well as he did last season if we force him to stay, no matter how professional he may be. It would just mean the transition to a midfield without him would take even longer. Unless you think Lucas would be up for the job this time next year..

I always said I'd have Mascherano over him because Masch is not only a quality footballer but he has the passion to play for us. Anyone who doesn't want to play for Liverpool can fuck off as far as I'm concerned. He can go to Madrid and try and gel with all the new superstars, good luck to him but he's not the be all and end all of our title hopes.
Yes it's a big loss if he goes (which he will) but IMO other players will step up to the level of importance that Torres and Gerrard hold this season; Riera, Benayoun and Kuyt are all improving all the time and each have a lot of quality.
We do need a replacement for Alonso though. I don't know who but I sure as hell hope it isn't Cattermole. A central midfield pairing of him and Masch would not only see 1 goal scored between them for the season but the red card count would be a big hinderance!

I don't know why this is never an option for football clubs. It happens with American sports teams all the time, players get tired of the team they're on, and the General Manager says "tough shit, you're under contract for 2 more years, get back on the field, and if you sulk and play like shit nobody will want to pay you big money anyway"
kas wrote:

Someone like Alonso will always get a move away..if he had a bad year Real would still buy him next year im sure. This isnt someone like an up and coming or mediocre American player who would need to be at his very best every season to get interest from European clubs.
Liverpool wont be helped by Alonso being on the pitch giving a half arsed performance.

That's exactly what happened with Bayern and Ribery this summer, for example. Or with Owen Hargreaves a few years back. It all depends on the club, how money dependent it is, and how stubborn and uncompromising the management.
