Bordeaux president may be relenting over Chamakh

Arsenal Target Marouane Chamakh Could Leave Bordeaux - Jean-Michel Triaud

The Moroccan forward's final destination remains unclear...
    5 Aug 2009 13:27:00

Bordeaux president Jean-Michel Triaud has admitted unsettled Moroccan forward Marouane Chamakh could leave the club in the next couple of days.

“It [Chamakh's future] will be settled in the next few days," he told L'Equipe.

It remains to be seen where the player's final destination will be, with Arsenal refusing to up their original offer of £6m. Manager Arsene Wenger had declared the club's interest to be “terminated”.

“In five months, if he doesn't prolong his contract, Chamakh will be free to talk to any club and Bordeaux won't get anything. In the current context, to me, it is over,” said the Arsenal manager

“I like Chamakh, he is a forward that attracts me, but I have Walcott, Bendtner, Van Persie, Arshavin and Eduardo. I am in no rush, there are other options.”

Another alternative for Chamakh could be Blackburn Rovers. Sunderland had shown an interest but are close to signing Darren Bent from Tottenham Hotspur, and this should end their interest in the Moroccan forward.

Bordeaux, for their part, had intimated they would only sell to a 'big club'.

    Vieira, Hangeland, Matuidi.

I think we'll sign a CM before the transfer window closes. Hopefully a CB and a right back too Ale

Bordeaux have landed Serbian striker Milan Jovanovic from Standard Liege, which I guess should help push the deal through.

Arsène Wenger is targeting up to two new players before the transfer window closes – but Patrick Vieira is unlikely to be one of them.

Speaking at the launch of Arsenal’s Charity of the Season, the French manager suggested he was interested in “one offensive and one defensive player” to add to his squad.

However when asked about the much-rumoured re-signing of his former captain, Wenger replied: "Not at the moment, no.”

He went on: "We can still make do with one or two players more.

"One could be in the defensive areas, and one in the attacking areas.

"We make a few enquires for players, but we are nowhere near to signing anybody at the moment.

"Usually the transfer market only speeds up from August 26 up to midnight on August 31 – and especially in the last two hours."

    * Arsenal’s new Charity of the Season is Great Ormond Street Hospital.

He's addressing the CB area but not the CM one. Another striker is a luxury.

Okay, the Sun actually got something right and it looks like Rosicky can't even get through a few friendlies without a new injury.

I don't think this new injury is that surprising - it's normal that after a long injury, you have smaller ones when you return. If he gets yet another one after this, then yes, it's big trouble for his career.

It could have been a lot worse guys, we could have had Fiorentina or Atheltico Madrid. Still, Celtic is more than hard enough especially at this stage of the season.

Hopefully we'll have another signing or two in place before this game.

Wenger - No move for Chamakh yet

Arsène Wenger has distanced himself from a move for Bordeaux striker Marouane Chamakh.

Arsenal have been linked with the Moroccan international all summer but, speaking at the launch of the Club’s Charity of the Season on Thursday, the manager suggested he was not prepared to pay the requisite price.

“We had an interest in him,” said Wenger at Great Ormond Street Hospital. “But he is rated far too high for us."

tabloid media are fucking monsters, Wanger is clearly doing some nice Charity work and they turn up to ask him the same question they asked yesterday and the day before. No mention of who the charity of the season might be!

for the first time in a long time I'm flummoxed as whom to cheer on for this one.

Arsenal are, by mere tradition, repulsive

But Celtic and their bunch of plastic paddy supporters whining on about never wanting to walk alone and being the first British team to win the European Cup and their sectarian bullshit and their attempts to join the EPL but not actually want to be in the EPL if it means being classed as "English" and all their other moans and gripes and tedious wank,

means I might have to sit ont' fence for this one.
