Not a good deal Goater, Lescott for 20 would be better.

We will see mate in my opinion i think its a decent deal and i will be happy with him. CB is the hardest position to sign top quality players (who is available realisticlly at the moment ?), the price doesnt really matter to much to us and i dont think its too bad. He will improve our defence, therefore i see it as a good deal.

For 16 million? probably a lot. IMO his vakue is 8-10 but given he's got just one year left and it's african nation season maybe would be looking at 5-7. But you're paying 16. A few years ago some of the best went for 16. I mean what Vidic was 7 mill Alex not so much even Carvalho i think 20? that was awhile ago. Toure is not worth it but you can afford it. However im not sure it weakens Arsenal it does give them extra funds to in a way you're helping a rival.

But giving Wenger more funds is like giving a lesbian the phone number of a good looking guy - they wouldn't do anything with it.

No matter if it is a good deal for Arsenal or not, if very likely is (but City basically always overpay), there is a danger of what we call "Substanzverlust" in German - too much 'substance', too many starters, lost. Even if those players didn't have a great season, it won't be that easy to replace them, if they are replaced at all that is. New players will need time to get used to the team and league, and the new season is going to start soon.

It's simply not what a top team, a team that wants to challenge for the league and in Europe, does.

There arnt many mate with his kind of established EPL experiance (something we are after ) he has played over 300 games in 8 years at the top level. He might not have been at his best over the last year or so but that might have something to do with the fact he has been uphappy and doesnt get on with Gallas.

You seem confused. Vidic came frm the Serbian league, Alex from Brazil and Carvalho from Portugal. There's already a premium attached to signing proven Premiership players, as opposed to prospects from overseas. Add to that Toure's Champions League experience, the fact that they're now potentially a rival for Arsenal, and the usual Man City bump up and £15m sounds about right to me somewhat.

What's this experience bullshit. Obviously a lot of defenders from the topc lubs have played in the champions league doesn't mean they're suddenly worth near 20 mill by proxy. Toure's had two shite seasons he's not been at his best he's in the last year of his contract and possibly wasnt going to be a first choice and you think 16 mill sounds right? hm ok then glenn.

I think a top defender from another league a la carvalho to chelsea would be less a risk than toure anyway. proven prem is bs whats proven is he's dodgy.
We'll see he could do well.

I doubt they'll find someone with Toure's ability and experience for less than £15m. Sure they could find a bargain in Germany or Belgium, but they wont. And yes, they would probably be better of signing someone better, for more, but no one better will go there.

Arsenal star Andrey Arshavin, Chelsea new boy Yuri Zhirkov and Tottenham Hotspur striker Roman Pavlyuchenko have all been called up by Russia manager Guus Hiddink for a friendly match in Moscow against Argentina on August 12th. The match, which is scheduled to be played three days before the start of the Premier League season is likely to cause consternation amongst Arsene Wenger, Carlo Ancelotti and Harry Redknapp who will all want their players fit and ready for domestic duty.

20-man Russia squad for a friendly with Argentina in Moscow on Aug. 12:

Incredible goal. Bollocks to Henry, Arsenal still haven't come close to replacing Bergkamp.

I don't think 15 million is that steep for Toure. The fact that he only had a year left on his contract didn't make that much difference because it was Man City and they weren't so desperate for Toure in particular that they'd just wait six months and offer him a contract in January. They wanted a defender of a given quality and experience and they wanted him right now. Those were the purchasing conditions and under those conditions I think the money makes more sense than 17 million for Santa Cruz, 18 million for De Jong, 16 million for Bentley and so on.

However, Toure doesn't complete their first choice defence, he only improves it, though anyone decent would be an improvement on Dunne.

Assuming Kolo leaves as is looking likely, who are our Central defenders: Tweety, Billy, Djourou, Senderos, Vermaalen.

Has it EVER looked this bad? Two turkeys, an emotional jerk, one untested Belgian and one inexperienced Swiss kid.

The only thing that might save us the 4th place is A-CON when Ade and Kolo are expected to be out.

I think Ray Parlour and a few others are so bored with no football they're allowing this to escape them.

That's a horrendous looking choice of centre backs really. It's not like the full backs are solid defensivly or there's a great DM to protect them, hardly the best keeper to rescue them with a few WC saves either. Arsenal will be no different good stuff lots of goals one way or another but wide open and anybody will be able to give ya a game.

Sagna and Clichy are not defensively solid Laugh

If you watched Arsenal games last season you would have seen how many points Almunia won us singlehandedly.

Anyone will be able to give us a game? I really wish teams would. If you count parking the bus as giving us a game then good luck to you.

Again if we were in such a bad state we wouldn't have gone 21 games unbeaten last season or reached two semi-finals.

I wish people would stop jumping to conclusions.

    @ Ray

You lost the most matches out of the top four and had the worst goals against record by quite some distance

Is it possible to add to a wage bill that you are already on?

Anyway, you better hurry because Milan are back in the race now that Luis Fabiano is staying in Sevilla. ok

Wait are you saying Clichy and Sagna are solid defensivly? there strong points are going forward. Clichy was nightmare for cock ups or defensive lapses and Sagna hasnt looked great from what i seen.

Almunia is not a great goalkeeper any keeper in goal will make a number of saves but is he one of the best out there? no. I rarely saw him make saves that most keepers wouldn't make and that's what seperates the best. Lehmann wasnt the best keeper ever but when he had his good season it was a lot better than whati seen from Almunia.

21 games unbeaten sounds better than it was. You went three games 0-0 back to back during that with a number of draws against shite also. You fucking deserved to finish 5th before the Arshavin one man show.

In the semi final i watched you could have lost both legs 4-0. Yet you think because you narrowly and luckily got through on penalties in the previous round it's something to shout about?

Come on get real dude Ale

Most of them were in the first half of the season where the team was a fuck up. Injuries, coppelled with the fact Gallas went AWOL and the Ade stories were major distractions in and off the pitch.
