Marouane Chamakh, the striker who is growing increasingly desperate for his much-discussed potential move to Arsenal from current club Girondins de Bordeaux to materialise, has claimed that he is losing sleep because of the anxiety the situation is creating.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has publicly stated that the club have been watching Chamak, but has hinted at nothing that would suggest a bid for the player is imminent.

Sunderland are also interested in the player, but, despite their fan base and backing by massively wealthy American entrepreneur Ellis Short, the perception seems to be at Bordeax that they are a small club to whom Chamakh shouldn't move.

The player, though, is seemingly desperate to escape from Ligue 1, telling Canal Plus, "My priority is Arsenal, but there are other clubs. If it's Arsenal, so much the better. I am not sleeping as well as I normally do.

"I made my wish known to the directors at the end of last season. I expressed a wish to join another league."

Chamakh is believed to carry a price tag of €15 million, an amount at which Wenger and Arsenal have balked, especially considering that the 25-year-old is in the last year of his contract.

The player himself just wishes that some kind of transfer deal can be concluded as soon as possible.

"I hope things will be sorted out, and that they will be sorted out very quickly. As much for Bordeaux's sake as for mine, my situation has to be clarified. I thought they (Bordeaux) would have made things easier for me," he concluded.

Good to see you back Shaz.

Exactly my point. A lot of creativity in the CM area and we get to see Nasri deployed in his best position. I'm hopeful Nasri will be back soon. Can't second guess Rosicky though. Accoding to Lerd that team would finish 6th Doh

JOHAN DJOUROU wants the chance to replace Kolo Toure in the heart of Arsenal's defence.

Djourou, 22, has had to wait patiently since his first-team debut back in October 2004.

The Swiss international played 29 times for the club last season. And with Toure securing a £16million move to Manchester City, he now wants to be the one partnering William Gallas or £10m summer signing Thomas Vermaelen.

Djourou said: "I hope this will be my breakthrough. This is what I am here for. I am trying to show everyone I am ready to play at this level.

"I want to step up now and feel this is my time. I have been here a long time and have learned from people like Kolo, William Gallas and Sol Campbell.

"I feel I have the experience I need to play in those big games and to play every week. I signed for the club when I was just 16 and it has been a good learning process. Now it is up to me to show what I have taken from these players and step up."

Thomas Vermaelen is “very close” to returning from injury and could make his full debut against Everton on Saturday.

The Belgian centre-half, who signed for the Gunners in June, featured in Arsenal’s first four pre-season fixtures but missed the final three with a groin problem.

However, speaking after his side’s defeat against Valencia on Saturday, Arsène Wenger delivered some good news on the defender’s situation.

“He is very close,” the manager confirmed.

“If we had wanted to take a gamble then we could have played him but we did not want.

“He should be available for next weekend.”

Wilshere has also been called up for the U21's this week.

Scored much more than any other midfielder. If it was me i'd start him alongside Cesc next weekend with Song sitting behind as he is the most similar to Rosicky and Nasri in terms of his passing and shooting ability. No doubt Denilson will start though.

Barcelona are said to have turned their attention to Cesc Fàbregas after failing to sign Javier Mascherano, the Liverpool midfield player. The Catalan club believe that an offer in the region of £25 million could tempt Arsenal to sell the Spain midfield player, who has expressed his unhappiness at the club’s failure to win a trophy in the past four seasons. Fàbregas, who has five years left on his contract, has committed his future to Arsenal this summer, but many feel that a transfer is likely next summer.

Definitely will not happen this summer but it is inevitable that he'll probably leave next summer. We should bid for a few dutchies. Preferably VDV.

With presidential elections at Barcelona next summer, I'd say it's 99% certain that an offer will be made. All depends on whether Arsenal can convince him to stay by winning a serious title (ie. league or CL) this year.

Even that may not be enough to keep him. He has been here since 2003 although I would prefer him for another season after this one as there isn't really a ready made replacement in the ranks.

Where on earth would he play in Barca's midfield? I can see Barca making a bid, I can see Arsenal accepting it and I can see Fabregas seriously thinking about leaving but I don't see where they'd play him.

That's what I've always wondered. Not like Xavi or Iniesta are exactly old. I guess it'd be a rotation system of some sort unless Barca were to change their formation.

We wouldn't accept anything less than £30 million though.

    Rotation is right Ale

Especially considering Henry isn't getting any younger (and will be in the last year of his contract next year, after which he'll retire or go to the MLS, so we have to start thinking of replacements anyway), and Iniesta has the flexibility to move into his LW spot.

Depends how crunched your credit gets this season. I've read that this is the year Arsenal might have trouble financially due to how the whole Emirates deal was structured though I suppose you've made a fair bit on transfers so far.

I wouldn't drop Xavi or Iniesta for Fabregas, particularly given what they've done for Barca, the loyalty they've shown. I just don't see it happening, or if it does I don't see it working out.

Actually, this is also quite possible because Guardiola is refusing to renew his contract beyond the current season. May sound crazy that the club would let him go (even if this year is trophyless), but the rumour is that he not only wants to see who wins the presidential election (and wants his future to be unrelated to the candidates' projects) but may also consider giving up coaching and looking for a director role himself.

So a new manager may decide he wants to play all of them in a narrow 4-4-2 like the Spanish national team:

    Valdes
    Defense
    Toure
    Xavi-Cesc-Iniesta
    Messi-Ibrahimovic

Sun says we've made a £8mil bid for Chamakh but it may be a rehash of old news. We've also bought a 16 year old keeper, Damian Martinez, from Independiente but he's staying there on loan for the time being, and Eboue is staying.

not sure why the Catalan press is harping on about him. Is it a smokescreen when we're actually after someone else?
Surely anyone would have to come up with more serious money than £25M.

and Arsenal first need some of their youngsters to establish themselves a little more before they would let Cesc go. They should have money to spend now, not players to sell.

I agree with it being likely next year. After all, Xavi isn't the youngest anymore and Iniesta could move forward.

Depends on the season Cesc has. His market value at the moment is roughly around £30 million. If he has a brilliant season and World Cup Barca could see themselves paying closer towards £45million.

As for Merida I haven't seen anything from him at the moment to convince me he is better than Ramsey.

Cesc @ 45 million - for what? A player who isn't even a regular international.

unless any of the first team players of Spain are injured or plans change, Cesc seems likely not to play overly much at the World Cup.

Merida is one of those many youngsters you get when they are promising and see whether they develop. It's a numbers game really. For the same chance Ramsey wouldn't have developed and Merida had.
