Lahm is better on the left. The only reason to move him on the right for the national team was Jansen, who seemed to have bags of potential back in the day, but it didn't really work out as we all know. So for the sake of having attacking fullbacks on both flanks, moving Lahm to the right made sense.

BACK THEN.

Now we have much better alternatives on the right (Beck, Hinkel), so Lahm should stay on the left, his strongest, side. q.e.d.!

It IS true Blut. Back in the glory days of qualification for Euro 2008, around the time when Lahm/Jansen was officially taking over as the status quo from Friedrich or Fritz and Lahm (this may have started as far back as March 2007 around the time of the Prague game, but certainly continued for a good while after that), you insisted this was the right way to go, as this guaranteed width from the full-backs necessary in the team's 4-4-2 system. Allez, as I've explained to you numerous times, the reason why I wanted Lahm to play on the right back then was Jansen, who was looking great in the Euro qualification. I wanted to get rid of Arne Friedrich as RB for good, I wanted two attacking fullbacks to provide width in our indeed rather narrow 4-2-2-2 system, I wanted us to be less one-sided and predictable, and I was (and still am) right about that!

It was not because I believe Lahm to be more effective on the right, I was fully aware of him being more of a threat when he could cut in from the left, give us those typical one-twos with Schweini or whoever played on his side. I was fully aware that he could and still can cross pretty decently with his weaker left foot. I had quite a few discussions with Leonardo and others about this actually, those who believed him to be better on the right due to his stronger right foot. But similar to Schweinsteiger, another right footed player, it seems to be easier for him to go past players on the left. The only reason why Lahm himself prefers the right side is that it seems to be easier for him to defend on the right, at least in theory. In reality he is worse at both on the right, attacking and defending. But still, Lahm at RB >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Arne Friedrich at RB. PERIOD.
