We've discussed the possibility of Wenger playing Eboué at left wing so that him and Clichy can double team Messi. Seriously doubt he'd not start Clichy in the left back slot though. Maybe away from home he might do that but in the first leg I expect us to just try and double team him a bit.

Eboue on the left of midfield is the worst of both worlds.

play Clichy in midfield ahead of Sagna ok

How about double teaming him with Silvestre and Walcott? No one would be expecting that either!

Messi is going to have a field day against Clichy. Sagna should be played, and hopefully doesn't slip like he did for France against Argentina

Eboue is crap, but is capable of defending Henry Ale

Because Walcott's shit. I remember when Traore had a good game in the Carling Cup 3 years ago he looked good, so I can only assume he's become world class in the interim given Wenger's reputation.

Playing Sagna at LB would be a great idea, but like Guardiola, I don't think Wenger's approach to football involves too much of modifying your tactics to counter the other team's strengths. It's just "this is how we play and we're going to keep playing like this".

    ok

I think at home especially, we won't modify our style of play. Away from home might be a different matter mind.

How would you say this team compares to the 2005/06 Barca team Kas?

It's less creative, less magical (mainly due to the lack of Ronaldinho) but more "modern" - faster, fitter, more tactically flexible, and mentally stronger.

    The myth continues

Arsene Wenger: Arsenal & Barcelona Share Similar Views On Developing Youth

Two sides meet in European quarter-finals on Wednesday...

Wednesday's Champions League quarter-final between Arsenal and Barcelona has been billed as a class between sides who play "the beautiful game", but Gunners boss Arsene Wenger believes there is more to it than that.

The Frenchman accepts that there are similarities in the playing styles of the two sides, but believes more should be made of the attitude both clubs put into their youth systems - academies that have recently produced the likes of Cesc Fabregas, Lionel Messi and Gerard Pique.

"There are similarities there in the way we play and the way we educate young players and the way we rely on young players and in the sense of belonging to the club," he noted to Arsenal's official website.

"I believe that we want the players to have that because it is an important part in the way we see football and I believe Barcelona has that as well."

In other words: Barca have an academy that produces outstanding players, Arsenal have a convenient habit of poaching other clubs' talent.

I saw a mostly rubbish article in The Times, which nevertheless had one interesting point - apparently Barça spend around 12-13m euros per year on the academy, whereas other clubs don't even spend half that.

Was thinking about comparing our club to that of four years ago but decided I couldn't be arsed. I think our first team is stronger now but having both RVP and Gallas missing takes a huge dent out of that.

Our current keeper is also a laughing stock and should count as TWO minus points.

Yes he was. Well, he had a horrific final by all accounts but he was a 'good' keeper whereas almunia is a 'shit' keeper.

Can't really argue with that. There was a nonsense article on our official website yesterday where the author stated that Alex Song and Gael Clichy both came through the Arsenal youth system. Although the former only had a few outing in his first spell at the club (originally on loan from Bastia) he was mainly used as a squad player and rarely featured in anything below the first team. The same for Clichy, he signed for us at eighteen and never really featured for our youth or reserve teams. Most of his football came in 10-15 minute cameos for either Cole or Pires once that game had been wrapped up.

Although Fabregas and Bendtner were 'poached' you can still put a case forward that they played youth football for us.

Aside from his last season where he had lost his way, he was a very good goalkeeper for us. One thing is for sure, we wouldn't have got to Paris without him after his clean sheets in every single one of our knock-out games. Superior to Almunia without question.

Almunia is pretty much every Arsenal fans biggest concern right now, I'm afraid he will fuck up again just like he did for the Ronaldo freekick last year.

    Shocked

Just read that he took part in full training today and that Wenger says he 'has a chance of playing'. I wonder if it is better than the 80% he was quoted as saying last week.

Arshavin, Nasri & Diaby all okay as well.
