If your entire title bid was resting on the fitness of Song, I'd hazard to suggest it was doomed from the start.

One big player is not a problem. Song's injury was in addition to Gallas, Fabregas, Van Persie and Arshavin. All starters.debaser wrote:shazlx wrote:Wrong. But Song in particular is important when there is no Cesc. He is our 2nd/3rd best midfield passer. He is our secondary playmaker as well as our best back up CB. In responce to your club as well, he is better and more talented than any Villa player. All he has to do is have a higher tackle completion rate and he is a world class DCM.

Circumstances have changed old fruit - Spurs are no longer a team fielding the likes of Vinny Samways, Justin Edinburgh, Andy Sinton and the like -
we've got a solid (and rich) chairman, a settled management of sorts, a crop of decent young players and a new stadium on the cards.
Arsenal on the otherhand - Wenger's reign is on the wane, another trophyless year, another bunch of kids still yet to fulfill potential, your true world class player is a crock, restricted funds, players revolting: your core of Home Counties and South East Asian bandwagon supporters are jumping ship by the droves.
You can bet your bottom dollar it won't ever be another 10 years until the next Spurs victory

Breathe in everyone...
Statistics do not make a player. Song has miles to go before he can be considered world class.
As Debbie said, if your title rested on Song staying fit then it was doomed from the start. I would only add to that that Van Persie has always been a crock, so you can't complain that he's injured, Arshavin has never been physically up to this league, so again you can't complain there, Fabregas always gets injured after a period playing at his best form, and Gallas is an ageing player for whom you didn't bother to sign any backup.
At once point Man U had six defenders and two goalkeepers out injured. That's far worse than anything Arsenal have had to deal with...

Re: The offical NLD banter thread
Heavily disappointed by my favorites, Modric and Nasri. Pav didn't do all that well after the initial promise. He did pass the ball well. Bent fans should watch his link up play
Diaby is all show and no content. Clichy had a decent game against Rose and Bentley, but will have to do more in attack as well as defence. Not sure we should take him with Evra and Abidal. Only Sagna is a certainty for France. He is in a bad form whenever I watch him play. He was at fault for playing Bale onside.
Somebody (Milan or us) should make a bid for Bale. Bale along with Cissokho and Taiwo, are the best young LBs in the business today. But don't quote me on that one. I might have spoken too soon..

There was a lot at stake for both us and Arsenal. I never expected a free flowing game or performance from the likes of Modric and Nasri - it's a cliche but this was all about the result, both teams closed down space at a frantic pace to deny the toehr the opportunity to play. Nerves and energy from the passion behind the history - it was no El Classico, but for me I couldn't care less how we played, as long as we got a result.
10 years is a long time to beat your neighbours. It won't happen again.
And Milan and Madrid can keep their filthy mitts off Bale - we require at least a couple more years of service from him before he inevitably joins one of the big clubs. He's still young, but could become a truly fabulous player.
Play it again Sam

The more times you watch that replay, the more silly Almunia looks - he had space around him and plenty of time, and the height was comfortable, yet he chose to punch instead of catch

To be honest, this one I can forgive Levy for, a long-time hoodoo broken in a game that meant so much to both clubs, and a strike that'll be talked about for years to come. That was Jimmy Grimble stuff from Rose.

1) Levy was desperate to sell out until the credit crunch hit and he's sure to crawl out from under his rock when the market comes back. Everything he is doing - push for CL, new stadium plans - is to enable to sell the club to the highest bidder. Don't be deluded, he's 'solid' now because the club is unsellable at the kind of unrealistic price he has in mind.
2) Harry' l be off like a shot for more money and more wheeling/dealing/bung-ing opportunities elsewhere (especially after having been thwarted by Levy sitting on him in January), having done some good business for himself on your promising youngsters beforehand. If I were you I'd make sure you've got everything nailed down before he leaves, and count all your cutlery afterwards.
3) You don't have planning permission or financing for the new stadium, both of which you need before you can start building castles in the air. And when you finally do, then you can bet your bottom dollar it will cost you more than it cost us to build Emirates. See how it's constrained us and how long it's taking us to pay for it. Good luck.
4) One solitary win in eleven years marks a seismic shift in the balance of power?. West Ham have a superior record against us to you.
Bright futures

No, I don't think we're still in it, but mathematically...
By the way we still have by far the best filled trophy cabinet in London. And we do not need to go back as far as 1961 for that.
