There is a difference - Jose wont win any trophies and will leave after claiming he wasn't backed properly. He wanted a sofa and they bought him Adebayor

Rosell negocia el fichaje de Neymar al margen de Guardiola

Sandro Rosell no quiere dejar nada a la improvisación y ha decidido que el Barcelona 2011-2012 ya empiece a tomar forma. El primer paso ha sido la renovación de Pep Guardiola durante una campaña más como máximo responsable técnico del club azulgrana. El segundo llega con el inicio de las negociaciones para atar el fichaje de Neymar (19 años), delantero del Santos y que el presidente ha señalado como objetivo prioritario. André Curi, amigo personal de Rosell de su etapa como máximo responsable en el país sudamericano de la multinacional Nike, estuvo durante la semana pasada en Barcelona, sentando las bases del que puede ser el primer fichaje cara a la próxima temporada.

El que todavía es dirigente de Traffic, empresa especializada en la compra-venta de jugadores brasileños, estuvo en la Ciudad Condal en nombre de Wagner Ribeiro agente del delantero y para sellar un compromiso entre el jugador y el Barcelona. Neymar ya sabe del interés azulgrana y su respuesta ha sido positiva a este primer acercamiento.Guardiola mantiene algún tipo de reservas porque el especial carácter del jugador. En el pasado brasileirao, en un partido, no quiso saber nada de sus compañeros y balón que hacía suyo, balón que se jugaba en solitario. Después pidió perdón, pero el detalle deja a las claras que no tiene un comportamiento ejemplar que se diga.

En los próximos días será el propio Curí el que inicie las negociaciones con el Santos para intentar llegar a un acuerdo para el traspaso del internacional. Pese a los diecinueve años recién cumplidos, Neymar ya tiene dos años de experiencia en el primer equipo de Santos (100 partidos) e incluso ha llegado a jugar en la selección absoluta brasileña. Antes del Mundial de Sudáfrica diferentes medios de comunicación hicieron campaña para que el joven delantero estuviera presente en la cita mundialista, pero Dunga no cedió ante la presión popular. Incluso se llegaron a recoger 14.000 firmas pidiendo su inclusión en la lista definitiva, pero no sirvieron de nada.

Neymar es una de las estrellas del campeonato sudamericano sub-20 que todavía se está celebrando en Perú. Los argentinos Iturbe, Araújo y Mori le disputan el cetro individual del torneo de la cita peruana. Brasil era la gran favorita, pero una derrota ante Argentina le ha alejado un tanto del triunfo en el hexagonal final. En la actualidad, Uruguay es la que lidera la clasificación. Ecuador, Colombia y Chile completan la nómina de equipos finalistas. El gran objetivo de este campeonato es el de lograr plaza para el Mundial de la categoría que se celebrará en verano en Colombia. La selección charrúa ya está clasificada.

Al todavía jugador del Santos le han estado siguiendo los ojeadores de los principales equipos europeos. Entre ellos estaba Alber Valentín, coordinador de la secretaria técnica azulgrana, ha reconocido que Neymar está entre sus favoritos. "Es un jugador que encajaría perfectamente en la filosofía de juego del Barcelona. Tiene más talento que físico y cuando aunar los dos aspectos será un grandísimo jugador", señala el técnico culé. Y es que Valentín llevaba el nombre del delantero de Santos apuntado en rojo en su lista de jugadores a los que debía seguir.

El precio del traspaso de Neymar podría rondar los 30 millones de euros, pero el interés de equipos como Juventus, Inter, Manchester United y Real Madrid, encarecerán el producto. A favor del Barcelona está que el hecho de que al Santos le podrían interesar jugadores como Keirrison y Henrique, que llegaron durante la época de Laporta al equipo azulgrana y años tres años después todavía no se han estrenado en el primer equipo azulgrana. Ambos tienen cartel en Brasil y podrían formar parte de la operación. El pase de Neymar es un sesenta por ciento propiedad de Santos y un cuarenta por ciento del grupo inversor Sonda.

"Neymar jugará en el Real Madrid. Ha nacido para jugar en el club blanco" , afirmó en los primeros días de enero y parafraseando al presidente madridista. Igual, y tras la oferta del Barcelona, ha podido cambiar de opinión.

The Daily Mail also have excerpts from the same interview, and they take the opportunity to try and redeem themselves for their "The best players in the world (and Xavi)" headline a couple of years ago (back in Jan. 2009 when Ronaldo won the WPOTY award).


Instead they pull off another epic fail by claiming Xavi was still an "emerging talent" back then, not up to the level of the likes of Torres

I think the role of Guardiola is often understated in Xavi's rebirth. I'm not saying he was a poor player beforehand, but I think having a manager who knows exactly how Xavi wishes to play and what team mates need to do to bring out the best of him is often looked over.

Yes and no.

Xavi was already very good as a youngster when he broke through under Van Gaal...the problem was the team had many other flaws back then, and the project failed, hence his best qualities weren't notable.

Then under Rijkaard, he started doing well again. His passing ability was utilized much more in a "truer" version of Cruyff's 4-3-3, and the important thing for players like that is to always have options available. ie. if the forwards don't run and make themselves open for a pass, the midfield can't give it to them. Especially for someone like Xavi, who will always look to keep possession instead of making a risky pass, even if it means going backwards or sideways. That's why it was very notable how his form dipped drastically between 2007-2008 when the team became lazy, unfit, and demotivated under Rijkaard. And he would get a lot of criticism about being a "sideways passer".

Then, as you say, when Guardiola came in, two things happened. The team's movement and off the ball running improved by a factor of 100 compared to Rijkaard's final season. This gave a natural boost to Xavi's game. And the 2nd crucial change was that Pep moved him further up the field, closer to the opposition penalty box, meaning he had more opportunities to make the final pass, rather than just be involved in the buildup. That's when his reputation really took off beyond Barcelona.

i liked the part about arsenal and how he said the difference is basically that we don't stand still, if we go winless for two seasons everything changes, expect the philosophy.

There's nothing wrong with continuity, Madrid never stand still either.

Its easy for Barca to appear a really well run club at the moment, but Barca have been as badly run as any other club in the past.

thats is true, but i would rather take the risk of changing things at the club if we go a few years without winning, rather than sit still and talk about continuity.

sometimes it pays of sometimes it doesn't, but unless you have a manager that will guarantee success over the longer term, then i think the risker approach is best for clubs who want to win things.

I think there may be something to the bit about Guardiola's philosophy suiting Xavi and of course the team was turning around, but it is also not a coincidence that Xavi's best years have come between the ages of 28-31. That when CMs are great because they have the experience to go with the ability. The decision making which is so crucial in the middle of the pitch is much more refined when you get to that age.

It's fairly easy for Barca to be risky though. The prestige of the club, meaning they can always attract world class players and large amounts of fans. Can't really see Athletico or Sevilla being more successful during the long-term than Barca. Take the Madrid example, terribly run, but still comfortably the 2nd best team in Spain for the last 5 years. If other teams take this risk - its easy for them to end up in midtable mediocrity or worse.

he has Tendinitis like xavi did soon he just needs to rest, age is catching up with them, he could but will not play against Arsenal, should be ready for the away leg though

I agree 100%, as should Iniesta so talented but does nothing in a game and xavi who can only make the obvious pass.

El Barça sufre sin Puyol

El Barça ha alcanzado los 40 partidos oficiales tras el disputado ayer ante el Arsenal y en sólo diez no ha conocido la victoria (cuatro derrotas y seis empates). El denominador común en los tropiezos del conjunto azulgrana es la ausencia del gran capitán, Carlos Puyol.

El central no participó en la ida de la Supercopa ante el Sevilla (3-1), en la vuelta de Copa del Rey ante el Betis (3-1), en el tropiezo liguero ante el Hércules en el Camp Nou (0-2) y ayer en el Emirates (2-1).
