Silva will never be a good enough defensively, especially playing as winger, that's why probasbly 3 centre midfielders were used, probably with Barry veing asked to help Silva - there's no sense in him dropping too deep, it's similar situation to Robinho under Capello - at first he was doing his duty defensively, but it made him uneffective attacking wise, fortunately for Real Capello changed that later and central midfielders were asked to help Real's left back, so Robinho was staying higher as second or third forward.
