Smith - Barton - Nolan... terrible uninspiring Midfield. No Guthrie?

Best advice I can give is to get Routledge & Jonas to swap wings. Jonas would track Evra better and Routledge would get more change out of O'Shea, and would support the impressive Carroll a bit better.

Guthrie isn't fit apparently. Nolan is just a poacher, one that happens to come from deep, that's all. Last season he did nothing other than score goals and we always looked better with Lovenkrands playing.

We clearly need a DM aswell, Hughton seemed to decide Smith wasn't good enough halfway through last season so why he's back i don't know. Barton and Guthrie are ok, but one of them has spent the best part of 3 years injured and there's nothing after that. We all know there is no money to do anything about it though which is the real shame, we can barely scrape together a few hundred K for loans at the moment. I can't even be bothered with transfer rumours, the daily mail reckon we're signing some DM from Feyenoord, but i know it's bollocks because there's a transfer fee.

Just saw the highlights. Some slick football but that useless tosser kept missing again and again(Berbatov not Rooney)

Scholes was pretty amazing but then Newcastle cannot keep the ball for more than two passes, was Alan Smith for real? He set up half of our attacks. Impressed by Andy Carrol but Newcastle will struggle to stay in the league by their performance.

Nani was the real MOTM though, some of his trickery was spunkworthy. Hernandes is a cutie!!

Feeling more confident about retaining the title than I was this time yesterday. Scholes (and Giggs) can't perform like that for 38 games and with those 2 out the midfield looks rather uninspiring. Nani didn't put in a decent cross all game and when he does Rooney looks like he couldn't score if his life depended on it.

You better hope that Hernandez is the real deal lerd, or the title will be staying in West London. Ale

It's a little worrying for Man United if they continue to rely on Scholes - their central midfield is the archilles heel of the team.

It's actually a position where Fergle has struggled with signings more than any other area IMO (Kleberson, Djemba Djemba, Veron, Carrick, Anderson for example - big money signings who have never really performed to a consistent level expected of a team like Man United), particularly with the departure of Keane (his best ever signing). Despite the amount of money paid finding the new Keane, it's ironic that their current best players in that position are ones which have come through the youth system (Scholes and Fletcher).

They will beat the mediocrity in the Premiership, and the group stage cannon fodder in Europe.

But this United central midfield is not going to win the league or the Champions League without someone like Anderson or Carrick improving dramatically, or Hargreaves getting fit, or Fergle splashing out on a World Class midfielder. Scholes is a majestic player, but he's too old to keep this up. Take Scholes out, and their central midfield squad is massively uninspiring in terms of creativity and ability to dominate games

Bizarre post. Scholes playing well is not a bad thing. Could have been 10-0 i don't think creativity is really lacking to be honest. With the attacking wingers and strikers you can put two newcastle centre mids in there and there will be plenty of creativity.

No instead you had José Enrique showing Steven Gerrard that he wasn't the only player in the Premiership who could set the opposition up brilliantly (for Man Utd's first goal).

Caroll was in the middle of the goal (after giving Vidic the run around) about 8 yards out with a free header. That was the best chance of the whole match.

Blaming that one on him is bizarre, the commentators did it aswell. Jonas lost the ball 10 yards from our box, Enrique was on his way up the left to support the counterattack so naturally he was out of position, he couldn't reach the through ball enough to put it out. That one was all Jonas' fault.

Yeah I was looking forward to blaming Enrique for that one but unfortunately after seeing the replay it was all Jonas' fault.
