Which beggars the question as to why a striker who has played in League 1 most of his career is leading their forward line.

At least start Saha surely?

Villa much better today, with Reo Coker giving the team some balance.
A full strenght Villa is in my opinion at its best with the following mid/fw line up:


Downing and Albrighton giving good depth out wide,
perhaps they need to invest in at least another "defensive" midfielder.

So no Ireland in CM, and Villa win.

I wonder if McDonald will realise that it's because Ireland is not a CM, rather than because he's crap.

If a player pulls someone down when the ball has been played behind the defence leaving a player with a 1 on 1 the offender gets a red.

Why does Richards only get a yellow ?

Its easier for the striker to bury that sort of chance than it is to put away a 1 on 1 so more of a clear goal-scoring opportunity.

Sounds like Phil Brown has been on some ropey courses during his unemployment.

Excellent assist from Kuyt for the Torres goal. And that Carroll from Newcastle looks really good I must say, much more talented then that Bale guy.

Karl Henry has effectively called out Barton for the return fixture at SJP. Clever guy.

We had 68% possession , so I don't care if striker is playing on his own, or not. And since last season Cahill is basically playing as striker too, he doesn't drop to midfield like he did in the past.

After two poor performances we played well, but couldn't finish - Friedel had some good saves, plus we decided that we can win the games without shooting from long range.

Don't really know what Moyes expected replacing Hibbert with Heitinga for last 10 minutes

Coleman once again proved he should get much more playing time, I don't care if it would be as RB or RM

Anyway, it was offside, just that the ref didnt ruled out the action as such.

Didn't see the game, and it sounds like it wasn't great performance, but a win is very nice & important after the utter, utter misery of the last week!

Is Darrwn Bent the opposite of a big game choker?

Still smarting Shamrock Rovers(or Liverpool for that matter though never linked) didn't sign him Fantastic player with a massive future

Where has Ginger Gollum been playing him btw? He's only played RB for Ireland's U21's in his 10 or so appearances.

He made his Everton debut as LB in 0-5 thrashing at Benfice Lisbon last season. From then he was playing exclusively as RB, with Moyes even trying Hibbert/Neville as LB, to make sure Coleman will get proper playing time during preseason.
His 20-minutes cameo last weekend was his first time as RM, which was expected with Anichebe injured and other players struggling there, and Coleman being very good with the ball and comfortable in attacking opponent in unorthodox way.

The best thing is that we paid shocking 70k (rising to even more shocking 150k on appearances) for him, guess he will be worth much, much more in the future
