I think a new right back is definitely necessary but I don't know who out there is really suitable. Perhaps Micah Richards has what it takes but being at City, it's impossible. I wouldn't mind doing an epic Bilbao raid and signing Javi Martinez, Muniain, Iraola, and Llorente but clearly this is a pipedream. It would suit all of our needs though. I don't know who would fit at CB. I've heard great things about Sakho but I've never actually seen him play...
Isn't Jose Bosingwa out of contract in Chelsea? If Jorge Mendes is his agent you know he's gonna sign with you Wink

Sakho is good but with the PSG revolution he doesn't really need to leave.

Not many people in England can quite understand what Mancio's problem with Richards is. He's been very good this season when played and has improved the defensive side of his game remarkably. Unfortunately he seems to have fallen out of favour recently.

I would love Richards. I think he is amazing and imo it is only a question of time before he wins back that position unless there is a personal problem between Mancini and him. Even with that Richards is unlikely to leave the club right away because of his status and love for the club.

Azpilicueta is one option to consider although I don't know how strong his offense is. I wouldn't mind Bosingwa as an alternative on a free. But if we are going to spend money it has to be somebody who defends well. Ramos-Pepe are too eratic and we somebody who is more calm in the defence. Arbeloa fits for me but it hasn't been his best season and his offense leaves a bit to be desired(but not as bad as people make it out to be). Maybe Maggio from Napoli but he might have become too used to the wingback position.

Richards would have no problem moving, I think he'd adapt well to La Liga but as you said he's pretty happy where he is. He likes Manchester, despite him being an Arsenal fan! Bam

Arbeloas better than Richards,I think it's important that if you have an attacking full back on one side that the other is defensively solid.Richard is better in the final third that's it,I don't think Real need another attacking full back.If you want a attacking RB,play Ramos there and Varane at CB.

I don't rate Richard that highly...I know why Capello and Mancini don't rate him - he's a headless chicken with no tactical sense. Even when he's in the right position, he sometimes switches off and dreamily watches the ball/player go past him. He's also more athleticism than quality defending.

Needs to continue starting week in week out at a Europa League club, and later in his career he'll be more suited to a CL top club.

He used to be like that. He's improved that aspect immensely over the last couple of seasons.

Not everyone needs to be the most technically able to be a good defender. He's not the best but he's not technically inept either.

And bar Gervinho, I don't remember anyone going past him this season. I'm sure Pierre will testify to this as well.

I'd rather have Zabaleta than Richards personally. Azpilicueta is the one I really like though. He is not super flashy in attack like Marcelo but he is competent.

Richards is awesome. Only next to Sagna among best rightbacks in DPL. Zaba is good utility FB for either sides. And he is tactically more suited for big games. But still Richards is the future. Far better than Johnson (even more tactical wreck), Walker (who is more of a headless chicken)...

I'm supportive of Azpilicueta as a realistic choice. And I'm content with Arbeola unlike most tbh.

Arbeloa had a bit of a dip in form since the beginning of 2012 but I thought he was superb in the Camp Nou as well as in the return leg against Bayern, two of our biggest matches of the season.

Very pleased to see Cibeles once again. Though it wasnt unexpected of course.

However, the ride itself to Cibeles felt like an overpriced Ryan-air flight from Dusseldorf to Madrid at 5 o'clock in the morning. It was bland, and the service was appaling. Yes, we reached our destination, and it was fast. But there are multiple ways to reach Cibeles that are cheaper, and more enjoyable. A bus or a train for example. It will take much longer, but such journey's are way more rememberable (read own youth Grr)

Anyway, as for the progress. The real progress that has been booked, is the size of Ronaldo's legs. Compare his legs of today with:

His "headless chicken" days are well behind him. And I'm tired of the whole good attacking but poor defensively line, there are not many full-backs in the world who can do both anyway.

However, the ride itself to Cibeles felt like an overpriced Ryan-air flight from Dusseldorf to Madrid at 5 o'clock in the morning. It was bland, and the service was appaling.
