Yep, but I don't hate Europeans per se, just the ignorant ones. I don't have time for insular ones, especially ones who support clubs that are happy to sign Africans, attend and scout these tournaments and then want them not to be Africans afterwards (Not talking about Ameobi here as I agree with you on that one), but they all knew about ACN before signing Africans. Don't like it - simple; don't sign them.

He could have done what Shittu did and not burned his bridges for World Cup. Keshi tends not to forgive such behaviour. Either turn both friendly and ACN down or neither, but to turn down the tournament and play in a now utterly meaningless friendly is downright stupid unless he thinks being capped once entitles him to a pay rise suitable for an international. He almost certainly won't get another chance now and that means no chance of World Cup for him. Don't see why he didn't just wait until after the competition to develop a taste for international football. Anyway Nigeria has better players up front and he'll have a great time warming (if that's the right word) your bench. Will be interesting to see how much he plays for you during ACN.

I plan to go to South Africa for it. Expecting gorgeous weather throughout.

Oh my god the world cup. The opportunity to play Costa Rica and then get KO'd. Maybe he shouldn't have played in that friendly, but he has made the smart choice in the end. The world cup is ages away anyway, they might not qualify, and even if they do qualify his premier league career being shot in the face won't help his already slim chance of playing there.

You mean the premier football tournament in the world. Nigeria has some pretty decent talent coming through. He may well have blown it as those youngsters will have a year's experience by then and he will be older. Like it or not the World Cup matters to players. When do English clubs ever buy Africans straight from Africa? We might see a player we're interested in at the ACN, but what we're really interested in is how they handle european club football.

He was good; it was his attitude that wasn't. Asamoah Gyan and Sessegnon were watched and signed after ACN. Another example is Emanuel Mayuka who was signed by Southampton after Zambia won the ACN. He played in Switzerland, but his role with Zambia was the thing that put him on map.

In world Cup, Spurs signed a couple of Argentineans after one who I remember did reasonably well for them after a World Cup. It was international football that put them in shop window.

Another example is Under 20 World Cup put Nelson Oliveira on map and Oscar too. The latter was signed by Chelsea. Oliveira is already Portugal international and pretty decent striker. Won't be cheap now. Ahmed Musa got move to Russia after it - he had offers in England as well. Ulises Davila was signed by Chelsea as well after it.

I am pretty sure that it is not a good idea to sign a player on the basis of one tournament, it is called the Diouf Effect or something . Therefore I would say it is an opportunity for players to put themselves at the supermarket checkout (rather than shop window) in case some manager is passing and he decides on an impulse buy.

Is the Diouf Effect any worse than the Poborsky Effect?
