One point that nobody has made - Fergie is 71, which is really old for someone from a shitty area of Glasgow where life expectancy is only about 54.

Manchester United officials must know that the best way forward is to sign a second tier level manager and then the 'big time' coach will replace the replacement.

Or...SAF waited so long on purpose! Cause let's be honest, it's a tough job, but still any manager would take it. Hell, it's not like this job is vacant all the time like at the rest of the big clubs. So perhaps SAF waited, so that all the big managers would have been taken already and thus we have to go for a 2nd tier one. He wants his legacy to grow even bigger! Remember Michels never wanted Cruyff as coach for the Dutch national team either. #khazarconspiracy

Still, Moyes is a shite choice. SAF actually won stuff with Aberdeen when he came to us. What has Moyes done? 0 wins in 11 years @ Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Man utd. And we can't spend as much as City or as Chelsea, so he is gonna moan about that as well. Should have gone for Solksjaer #theuntitedway

Generally helps if you move out of the area Murray.

I imagine 'arry is waiting by the phone just in case Laughing

After Utd broke Liverpool's record of league titles, Ferg's job was done and it was only a matter of time. Also he seemed exceptionally hacked off about being dumped out of CL this season, didn't look like a manager who had another season in him. Dave Whelan said on Five Live tonight that he's not well either.

It was a jammy cup win, Liverpool were only the 5th best team in England that year.

I don't get why people are making conspiracy theories on why Fergie is leaving. Are you forgetting he is 71 years old ? How many other managers can you think of that are as old as him ?

didn't have to pay compensation to get him though & I bet he won't be on anything like as much as someone like Mourinho would demand, so I guess worth the risk of long contract & it's a show of faith.

It really is up for grabs now. Man Utd will inevitably be seen as being in the fight for 4th rather than the top 2, the psychological impact this will have on the way teams approach games will be huge.

If City's owners had a brain they'd sack Mancini and hire someone capable.
