Re: Next United Manager?
Possibility but I think it's too early and would be a bit of a risk.
This United team need about two/three great individuals to make them CL favourites. Fergie's left them in a good position. Many young players still there too.

Re: Next United Manager?
been quite a few folk seen as potential successors whose stock has fallen at the wrong time (Disgrace, Hughes, Shteve). Can't see them going for Mourinho, too volatile. Think they'll try Moyes, 'cause they know he won't rock boat too much & will be happy to just try to continue in Ferguson's style (Ferguson will still be a big influence if he's staying as director).

Whoever it is, I don't think he'll stick around for three decades. Expect United to become a 'normal' big club in this regard.

True that. Those days are long gone. Instantaneous success/progress is now the new norm, nobody has patience for anything else. People tend to forget that Fergie's first few years in the job were very average and he took more than his fair share of beatings. Wouldn't be accepted nowadays.

Re: Next United Manager?
To much of an 'experiment' for a rather conservative club. Expect an English / British manager, Moyes sounds likely. And if a foreigner is chosen, it'll be someone with strong links to the club.

Re: Next United Manager?
It'll be interesting to see what the (key) players will do now. Will they move now that Fergie has retired? Working with him has always been an appeal for them, especially British players.
For months there had been speculation about Ronaldo "returning" to Manchester. I think that's a lot less likely now also.

If Mourinho comes (unlikely considering how he is), Ronaldo could be a possibility.
Rooney looked like leaving when Fergie was still there, wouldn't surprise me to see him for sure now. RVP was Wenger's retirement present to Fergie

Re: Next United Manager?
True, if (big IF) Mourinho is his successor, Ronaldo could be a possibility. But I really don't think that he has that many fans at Manchester United, Fergie included who of course will have a big say in this regard.
Mourinho is someone for the short term. He'll likely bring results, but most likely poison and burned bridges, too.

Bit of a silly reason but fair enough. But from what I hear, Ronaldo still has a big affiliation for United, or maybe it was for Fergie?

Re: Next United Manager?
Jol?
This is the biggest job in club football. We can ask anyone who we want, poor pep But I dont want Moyes for our club, bar being Scotish and being in the job for a long time, he has fuck all in common. Maureen, not sure about him. His trick only seems to work a few years. And if the players dont have the believe everything collapses, besides didnt he just signed for Chelsea? And he lacks the class for a Man Utd coach. He must feel really bad now. And Klopp is nothing more then a mere clown. Wenger doesnt have the winning mentality for us.
So, who to appoint? I would go for a low key coach. Cause whatever happens, the shadow of SAF will make it too difficult for any coach. Let's give it to a guy like Solksjaer or Laudrup. And wait till Giggsy is ready for the job!

I don't disagree but even though Ronaldo has matured a lot he is still is prone to his tantrums from time to time. I wouldn't be surprised if it's both but I don't think he would go back right now if Jose goes there first.

Re: Next United Manager?
Why do people suddenly rate Laudrup so highly as a manager ? Do people really hold the Carling Cup in such high regard now ? Especially when taking into account they beat a division 2 team in the final ? Also Swansea have actually done worse in the league this season, despite signing Michu.
I am sure I remember Jaime saying just last year that Laudrup is an average coach and has been poor at the teams he has managed in La Liga. But since then Jaime has said he would like Laudrup to manage Madrid( Not picking on you Jaime, just a good example from a Madrid poster on here). It seems like suddenly, ALL Madrid fans want him.

Re: Next United Manager?
Klopp seems like the best choice, but it sounds like it will be Moyes, which is aswful for them, but great fun for everyone else. Mourinho is too much of an egomaniac for them, Ferguson has never liked egomaniacs that think they're bigger than the club.

Don't think so. His stint in Getafe was great. I might have said that his one down point was that he hadn't managed a really big club. But no, I think he's done a really good job every where he went except maybe Spartak Moscow.

Re: Next United Manager?
Klopp made the 'special one' look very average, that's why. Over four friggin' legs.
The best thing abut Klopp is his vision as a manager. He created his own football philosophy by combining the most effective element of Pep's Barcelona, aggressive (counter-)pressing, with very direct, vertical passing football (unlike Barcelona) that make Dortmund rather unique. His influence on the current Bayern side can't be underestimated either, as Bayern actually copied the pressing from Dortmund.
