I managed to catch 3 games last weekend... Roma outsmarting Napoli, Viola's brilliant comeback against Juve, and Inter's crazy game at Torino... Serie A is really exciting this year!

Rossi and Cassano looking good. Cerci also seems to be doing great as a loan striker. Good for Italy.
Surprised to see Juve leaking goals.
Nesta retired. He wants to become a coach now.

Agree. In fact Buffon is one of the several key players in Juventus who are below par till now in this season. Pirlo, Asamoah, Marchisio and Chiellini are the others. I fear that we will continue to put in these sub standard performances till some of these guys hit their stride. And our once mean defense of the last 2 season is the scariest of the issues. I suspect we will be taken to the cleaners by Ronaldo, Bale and company on Wednesday evening

De Sanctis has done well for Roma too.
But Prandelli told GdS that Buffon will be his no.1 choice at the WC.

Re: Serie A 2013-14 Season Thread
That is just ridiculous. I have been one of Buffon's biggest critics this season, he is making mistakes, but everyone goes through a bad spell of form. Its just that Buffon was so unbelievably consistent in his career, that people are so shocked at the few mistakes he has made recently. I have little doubt that by the time the world cup starts, Buffon will be back to his old self and this spell of average form will be long forgotten.Murray wrote:He shouldn't go to the World CupPras_tama wrote:Buffon at his best would saved that Rossi's 2nd goal
De Sanctis, Sirigu or Marchetti have the same presence that Buffon brings to the Azzurri. For the world cup, I have bigger doubts re Pirlo than re Buffon.

This is more than a bad spell of form, Buffon was making mistakes last season as well, like against Bayern in the CL for example.bluenine wrote:That is just ridiculous. We just have to come to terms with the fact that Buffon is human again. He will make an odd error every now and them. That era of 10-12 years without putting a foot wrong is over.

Re: Serie A 2013-14 Season Thread
Its now the best start ever in Serie A - equaling the record held by Capello's Juve. I think its also the best start in any of Europe's top 4 leagues. Now that their next games are with Chievo and Torino, there is a good chance that they will continue!Murray wrote:9 wins out of 9 for Roma, despite having 10 men & no Totti.
But like Arsenal leading in England, even Roma's perfect start is not enough to convince me of their title credentials. Its still Juve's title to lose.
Milan, whats going on there??

Agree about Roma, but they have a good chance for the champions league. 3 champions league spots, assuming Juve get 1 of them, Napoli, Roma, Fiorentina, Milan and Inter will be fighting for 2 spots.

Yup, and I think Napoli will also get a spot unless Rafa screws up big time. So its between Roma, Fiorentina, Inter and Milan for the final spot. Roma will hit a bad patch, and Fiorentina can only improve once Gomez is fit. For Inter and Milan, CL qualification is only possible if they stay within a few points of the spots till Jan, and then spend big. The current teams are just not good enough.BoBo Vieri 32 wrote:Agree about Roma, but they have a good chance for the champions league. 3 champions league spots, assuming Juve get 1 of them, Napoli, Roma, Fiorentina, Milan and Inter will be fighting for 2 spots.

Roma are a shoo-in for a CL spot. Juve & Napoli will probably get the other 2. Milan have no chance, Inter will have to settle for the Europa League.

Rudi García is France's answer to Rafa Benítez, always rated García since he took Le Mans to the top half in Ligue 1.
Yes mes amis! Taking Le Mans to the top half of Ligue 1 is like Benítez winning La Liga with Valencia. García then actually won Ligue 1 with a mini 'Valencia' in Lille. I'm not surprised by García's success with Roma. Next stop for him is CL appearance hofefully with Roma, do well there like Pellegrini with Villarreal and Málaga and then he'll coach one of the elite teams.

Dude, its Roma we are talking about. Roma. Nothing is a shoo-in for them, until it becomes a mathematical certainty.Murray wrote:Roma are a shoo-in for a CL spot. Juve & Napoli will probably get the other 2. Milan have no chance, Inter will have to settle for the Europa League.
Lets see how they do when they hit a bad patch... Garcia's done wonders, but IMO it will take more much more time to remove the chronic mental fragility that plagues that club.
Re Inter, you are probably right... we are playing much better than I expected, but we are not CL level yet. Far from it. Though a few quality additions in January could change things.

Apparently he is already training with the squad... its kinda amazing. When he got injured, the doctors said 8-10 months is normal, but at Zanetti's age it may take longer... many feared he would never come back. Now there is a chance Zanetti may return next month, recovered in 6 months! Superman, even at 40!BoBo Vieri 32 wrote:is Zanetti back any time soon Blue?

This is his last season though, as a player. But I hope Inter do not treat him like Milan did Maldini or Juve did Del Piero. I hope Zanetti stays on forever as a brand ambassador or something. I remember Moratti said that Zanetti has a job at Inter for life... but now, Moratti is no longer the main owner.
