have faith Luis. Villa have Jordan Bowery starting up front. City won't have a clue who is. Scored his first goal in a Villa shirt at weekend. Admittedly into own net, but it's a start Smile

    Season round-up...

    2nd place
    Most goals scored
    Top scorer
    2nd top scorer
    Top assister

    Not too shabby.

The big question for this summer is if we can hang on to Suarez.

I hadn't watched that much of Lallana during the season but I was impressed with him last night against Peru. He's quicker than I remembered.

Really not sure about that hipster beard though. He might go to Spurs so he can hang out in Camden.

Lallana looks ready made for our system - a great passer of the ball, links up the play from defence to attack very quickly and is far superior from range than our current midfielders. If we do sign him it will just be whether he can handle the step up - some players can and some players can't. The problem I have is that Allen looked a very good player at Swansea and even, at times, looked as good as Lallana was this season but he really failed to make that step up (though I do think he improved a lot at the end of the season).

It begs the question of which player is he going to replace in our system? For 25 million he has to be starting so I'd expect Coutinho to miss out and certainly Allen will miss out as well.

I'd sell Lucas, Skrtel, Aspas and Probably Borini now we have Lambert.

Lovren should replace Skrtel and partner Agger/ Sakho at the back.

Moreno would obviously go in at left back but I'd have Flanagan at right back over Johnson.

Agree about Allen, but he's had injury issues. I'd give him another year and then move him on if he hasn't stepped up.

I think Coutinho is still developing and has the potential to get better- we really benefit from his guile when he's on form.

Not sure about Skrtel - I think I'd keep him if (as is rumoured) Brendan doesn't keep Agger. Too many changes in defence can be hard to adapt to.

Have to say that Rogers has a patchy record on signings so far....

Only Chelsea's is superior though IMO if we got those players and they clicked. City you could argue but they're struggling in that position as well.

Sakho will come very good - he has all the right attributes.

    Flanagan is solid.

    Lovren was great at Southampton.

Moreno is pretty sexy I hear?

It would be a vast improvement on the likes of Skrtel and Johnson.

Is Lallana better than Coutinho? I find it hard to believe you'd be happy to pay £30m to make that particular change to your team.

I'd say it's quite close with Lallana possibly edging it over the season. Coutinho is only 22 though so I expect he'll go on to be better. Maybe as good as Juninho one day Smile

I read somewhere that Lallana ran only 1 mile less than Henderson last year, and there were more sprints in that (not sure how many games etc.). I think he fits the aggressive pressing from the front better than coutinho. Allen was often the preferred option when Liverpool set up more defensively, but I also remember Allen getting forward and missing several chances. Lallana provides some aspects of both Allen (defensive/ball retention) and Coutinho (attacking/scoring), and maybe even Henderson (facking running).

Plus Liverpool had a shite bench last season. The only way to get a better bench is to either buy players to sit on it, or buy even better players for the first team and let the younger players, like coutinho, sit on it, or give them more competition to push themselves even harder.

City away we can get out the way then a nice easy win vs Spurs.

Anyone worried about these Suarez rumours?

I wish the club would come out and deny them. the dead silence is a bit worrying. That said if we were forced to sell we shouldnt consider anything less a £100m minimum. I trust our board will not mess this one up and sell him for less than that. Currently £68m/£70m being reported.

We should try everything to keep him though. I cant see why he would want to leave now.

Worrying about Suarez leaving is like worrying China are going to take over the world one day - it's going to happen so no point thinking otherwise.

I don't expect him to leave this summer though, the prospect of playing in front of fans that he's broken the hearts of every week will be delicious for him and Champions League football will give him the chance to prove to Hodgson that he is indeed world class.

I suspect this will be his last season for us before he goes to Madrid and we get a lovely 70 million to waste on Oxlade Chamberlain.

So Southampton are getting £57m for Lallana and Shaw, that's pretty good business.

The Shaw deal sounds incredible £32m and 100k a week for a teenage left back, he needs to turn into a left sided Cafu for that money.

You should have just signed Cabaye in January tbh.

full back is a position worth spending big on, for the right player. though I do wonder if with Shaw there isn't an element of people thinking LB + Southampton = new Bale and that's inflated his hype & price tab..

He's not a 'taking the team to the next level' player though.

Although saying that if we find a space for him in the midfield three instead of wide it could work well.

Someone like Sanchez probably can only happen if Suarez goes though. I'd seriously be like this if we signed Sanchez though  Lamela

At the moment we have these current options to alternate between (perhaps in different competitions)

    ----------Henderson---------Gerrard---------------

    -----------------------Lallana----------------------

    -----Sterling---------------------------Suarez/Replacement

    -------------------------Sturridge-----------------------

    OR:

    ----------Henderson---------Gerrard---------------

    -----Sterling------------Coutinho------------Suarez/Replacement

    -------------------------Sturridge-----------------------

Lucas, Can, Allen and Lambert all competing for various positions as well.

Obviously big question marks over Suarez and if we can get a nice attacking player that can play on either flank then that can use Sterling centrally as well which is a nice option.

I'm still not overly chuffed with Lallana; I like Coutinho and I'm not sure Lallana is a massive improvement for that type of money. Having those options will definitely help us with 4 competitions though.

Now for the defence please. It's so essential that we sort that mess out soon.
