So Gareth Barry replaces Fellaini for Everton. I think I need reminding why the Everton fans were all rejoicing on deadline day.

Apparently it's 26 games since Villa kept a clean sheet in the league. Why do I have one of their defenders in my FF team???

Ramsey and Flamini were great. Reminding me of the Fabregas Flamini partnership. Just comfortably dominating today. We have needed to replace Flamini with a player like him since he left. Better late than never then. The Professor might think we don't need an energetic midfielder but considering Wenger doesn't play with tactics, we've needed someone who is disciplined, smart and has good athleticism. Arteta sits and holds great but Flamini can also keep up with the pacy counter attacks that leave Arteta behind. IMO if Chelsea had Flamini and Lukaku in their squad they would be comfortable favorites for the title.
Wilshire is really frustrating now, playing much more immature than he did at a younger age. Hoping he'll grow out of it soon by playing with Cazorla, Ozil and Ramsey.
Anyway, their penalty shold have been as it was a dive but still it was a crazy stupid tackle from Kos. absolutely no need to go to ground. He would be such a solid defender if cuts outs these random unforced errors.
Ozil with a very decent debut. Give us 5 or so games with Cazorla, Wilshire and Ozil together to gel and wait for the magic!

Even it's an unfair comparison today with McCarthy being away for international duty and not starting, I still have no idea why they didLuis wrote:So Gareth Barry replaces Fellaini for Everton. I think I need reminding why the Everton fans were all rejoicing on deadline day.
Barry and Osman as CM/DM duo playing against Mata - this will be painful...
Agree with Lukaku, but don't they have a black version of Flamini in Ramires?shazlx wrote:Ramsey and Flamini were great. Reminding me of the Fabregas Flamini partnership. I would say Ramires is box2box rather than some who will sit holding and supporting. They are both energetic so he gives them that but not the composed defensive base.stinger wrote:Even it's an unfair comparison today with McCarthy being away for international duty and not starting, I still have no idea why they didLuis wrote:So Gareth Barry replaces Fellaini for Everton. Who wants to talk about Spurs? OK, if you insist.
First off, clearly rather unfortunate we played arguably one of our two most important games of the season (against Arsenal) so early on. Because today showed the difference some time playing together makes, but even more crucially the importance of now having a player like Eriksen in the side.
I'm going to avoid eulogizing about the best thing to come out of Denmark since Lurpak and bacon, so let me just temper it with the fact it 'was just Norwich' before someone else does. HOWEVER, it's exactly those games against the likes of Norwich (and Arsenal in fact, based on how they played 2 weeks ago) where they sit behind the ball inviting us on to pick a way through them where we have failed regularly in recent times.
What impressed me so much about Eriksen on his debut wasn't so much his tidy tekkers (lovely simple assist for the first), but the fact he does something that I haven't seen at Spurs since the Modric/VDV days: namely he actually stays in central positions, right there in 'the hole', and is clearly naturally comfortable doing so.
We're overloaded with players who drift wide and cut inside, Bale himself was one of those players, but what we've not had since VDV was a player to sit behind the striker and play that traditional number 10 role effectively. Today we saw the difference - we utterly dominated Norwich in terms of possession, but more importantly picked holes in their defence and created chances. As one sided a game as I've seen in the Premier League for some time. That hasn't happened enough in the last year.
When Eriksen was taken off, there was a clear gap in that link up position between the midfielders and the attack again. Lamela himself is another who likes to drift from out wide. Which means I'm going to predict Eriksen as THE most crucial player to our season. Holtby came on and, bless him for his enthusiasm, ended up running around in areas of the pitch he didn't need to be, leaving no one in that channel between Soldado and the midfield. Hopefully he will learn, but it clearly doesn't come naturally to him like it did with Eriksen.
And before I blow all of my load on Christian, obviously props to Siggurdson, who was really rather excellent. Infact, a thoroughly satisfying performance against a team who have a history of pooping on our doorstep, with some good players and I fully expect to finish midtable.
In other news, what is the point of goal line technology if incidents like the Sunderland - Arsenal game occur where Sunderland were awarded a free kick instead of a goal??

That's the point you bellend - it's not that he can pass the ball that much better than anyone in the squad, it's that he knows tactically how to play centrally. Man United have exactly the same problem when Rooney goes run around / is dropped, and don't play Kagawa.Fey wrote:Ohhh look at meeee....Christian can pass a ball better then anyone in the squad...wank wank. Glenn is sore he can't trot out his 'no goals from open play' line anymore. The reaction is understandable. I was also unaware that Liverpool fans talk about Coutinho with dreamy erections either. Infact, let's just not talk at all. That tends to work well on forums

I already corrected the point regarding £20 Ozil, it was meant to say £20m. And I was in referring to any central attacking midfielder. I wanted a player out wide to replace Walcott. And I didn't want another Arshavin that would struggle out wide. But it does look like Ozil is comfortable drifting out wide.
At the time of the Capoue comment I checked 2 websites for confirmed squad list and he wasn't there. Capoue's fee was agreed between clubs but the signing wasn't written as confirmed. Flamini was a free agent and had been training with Arsenal for a bit. Wenger was at the time very coy at the prospect of signing him. I put two and two together and assumed that Flamini wasn't wanted because he had lost a lot of physicality.
Anyway, what I'm saying is Chelsea with a solid DM (Flamini, Capoue, Fellaini, whoever) and a dominating striker would be favorites and they could have had both without much hassle.
