Who scored in the Bayern game?

Also do you think Bayern will be willing to sell Owen?

Makaay (who had a great match) and Schweinsteiger (good match as well) scored. Hargreaves wasn't at his best yesterday. Don't think that Bayern will sell him, they let both Ballack and Ze Roberto leave and haven't replaced them. They simply can't afford to lose another midfielder, the midfield is already stretched thin IMHO.

Im so glad we have German footy on cable tv again. This could be a really exciting season. Too bad HSV dropped some points, but then again VDV is not in top form yet, they will gel when he will reach its old form again. I wish all the Germans teams well(except for Bayern ofc.) i mean 4 or 5 teams that can realistically go for the title. No other League can offer you that. <Ale>

Hey Fey, nice to read that. It's a good sign that people from abroad are noticing the entertainment value of the Bundesliga, especially our friendly neighbours to the West. Smile

To put it in marketing terms: The Bundesliga is an excellent product that needs better marketing abroad. There are a lot of stereotypes about our league, this is especially evident on "mainstream" boards like 606, where not just hardcore football fans post.

I agree, this season is (hopefully) going to be a very exciting and close one. Quite a few teams have good chances to win the championship.

Meyer because of his Groningen years? He is an excellent coach, and a true sportsman as well. That's what he said after the match against Stuttgart:

"Wir hatten im Vorfeld einige Verletzungsprobleme und sind mit gemischten Gefühlen nach Stuttgart gefahren. Aber nach einer glücklichen 2:0-Führung kurz vor der Pause wurde der Gegner nicht sicherer. Das 3:0 war eine Beruhigung für die Nerven des Trainers und der Fans. Der Sieg ist vielleicht ein, zwei Tore zu hoch ausgefallen."

    Rough translation:

"We had to deal with a few injuries, that's why we had mixed feelings before going to Stuttgart. But after a lucky 2:0 lead right before the halftime break, Stuttgart didn't gain confidence. The 3:0 lead was good for the nerves of the coach and the fans. We probably won scoring one or two goals too many."

Meyer was coach of FC Twente if I am correct. You are very right. The Bundesliga is more exciting than a lot of people think. Commercially it is good for Germany that Van der Vaart is playing in Germany because he alone raised the interest of the Bundesliga from the land of Frau Antje.... sunny

The only concern is that the Bundesliga teams needs to win more games in the Europa Cup because the last couple of years it was not that good. Because of that the country is now in a bunch of countries like Portugal, Russia, Romania and the Netherlands to fight for the three Champions League spots... It is significant that this league is much bigger than those minor leagues!

The Bundesliga must become the 4th league or even better!

    both unlucky.

HSV is way too inexperienced and desperate for a striker. They are a timebomb though, if they get going they'll be one of the hottest teams in Europe, I'm sure of that.

That's true, of course. We really have to do better in Europe, especially in the UEFA Cup - I hope that Schalke and Leverkusen do well this year, especially Leverkusen look good.
Champions League should be tricky this season, because Bayern are forming a new team of youngsters, that will need some time. Same for HSV, if they qualify that is (if not, they hopefully do well in the UEFA Cup). So it's up to Bremen to deliver in the Champions League this season. Not saying that we don't have a chance to impress, since our squad is pretty good this year, but it will be tough enough for us to reach the 1/4 finals for the first time.

In the long-term, Werder wants to establish itself as a top 10 European club. For that to happen, we need to continue to qualify for the Champions League in the next seasons. Our management has shown that they spend the money wisely, and if we continue to get the Champions League revenues, it will be easier for us to keep quality players, while being attractive for fresh new talent at the same time.

In a few years, if it continues like this, I'd say that reaching a Champions League semi-final could be realistic goal. But for now, doing better than in the last 2 years (second round) would be great already.

    1) Don't think so. Smile

    2) He is doing great. He is exactly the type of striker we needed. A very physical, yet technically strong guy. Fans already like him a lot, so does Thomas Schaaf, our coach. Werder has an excellent attack, but I expect him to play quite a few matches for us this season, especially against very defensive sides.

    1) You're probably right.

    2) Great to hear. He wanted to stay at Porto but Co didn't exactly appreciate him, so he sent him off.
I think the guy has absolutely great potential, his physical attributes being a big part of this belief.

I wouldn't mind seeing him stay at Werder as it would ensure he develops while alos keep him out of a Porto jersey and hence away from Sporting's goal.

    Dear Markus Babbel,
    Please. Shut. Up.

Sure you lost because you didn't convert what little chances you had--but also because the defense was a shambles. No more Hitzlsperger at leftback, please! Veh should have known that really--everyone who watched the ConFed Cup last year could have told him that The Hammer just isn't cut out to play as a full back.

No... Sure, it would be wrong to paint everything in black now and to just give up on the team for this season--that won't happen. I just hope they finally woke up to stop what's been going on for half a year now. Wouldn't want to see the next coach to be brought in so shortly after Veh and Trap.

    @Luso
Thomas Schaaf is a great coach. The vast majority of players who joined Werder under him improved dramatically. And because we play the Champions League again this season, we definitely will need all of our four strikers.

    @Wiebke
Before the season started, there were speculations that Veh may probably be one of the first coaches who will get fired this season. What do you think about his work so far? Do you want him to remain coach?

So, Almeida (and therefore the Portuguese national team?) will probably profit from the typically tough training in the German league as well. Hargreaves has at least, as could be seen at the WC.

I think the management made a point by extending his contract at the end of last season--so no, I wouldn't think they'll fire him any time soon.

Aims are pretty low for this season, with even Veh saying that first and foremost, he wants the team to play attractive football. No talk about reaching the international slots or winning the DFB Cup.

    We'll see how it goes.

Not sure if that really was a Schwalbe, Enke was kinda stupid to run into him like he did. Klose usually doesn't take penalties himself, and Boro is usually a very good penalty taker. Enke is a good goalie, but he really should have scored that one. And we really should not have conceded that goal.

    I'm pissed.
