... but Liverpool might finish ahead of us in the league Crying or Very sad but it will be tight, it all depends who can be the most consistant.

However we have been better playing better against the big 6 (Man U, Chelsea, Porthmouth, Bolton) and worst against other teams.

    Chelsea 1-0 Liverpool
    Manchester United 0-1 Arsenal
    Bolton Wanderers 2-0 Liverpool
    Manchester United 2-0 Liverpool
    Arsenal 3-0 Liverpool
    Bolton Wanderers 3-1 Arsenal
    Liverpool 0-0 Portsmouth
    Chelsea 1-1 Arsenal
    Arsenal 2-2 Portsmouth
    Liverpool 3-0 Bolton Wanderers

If we finish ahead of you that usually means we're a better team (unless of course we're left with nothing but the league to concentrate on having failed to make it past the CL group stages Smile).

In the 80s United would regularly beat Liverpool but finish behind them in the league. Under Houllier we had the meassure of United for a while but, bar a one off season, we weren't even close to them in the league.

The better team will finish higher in the table, but, that doesn't equate with having the better season. Lverpools best season in recent years was when they won the champions League, yet, they only could finish 5th.
Better seasons go beyond more points, it means more trophies aswell.

Some funny comments, Last year liverpool finished way ahead of arsenal on points, the year before the other way around. this year even in the league almost, with 3-0 1-3 both to arsenal, it is clear who is ahead right now. Things can change but liverpool need better players, only two i would say could be called world class. arsenal have rvp cesc henry gallas etc all who could be.

Typical Man U fan comment. It's not the best 11 individuals, it's the best team.

It'll be close between Liverpool and Arsenal at the end still.

Arsenal have better players and have finished above liverpool bar one season in around 10 years. Arsenal can compete well with the top teams, were as Liverpool cant and now that Henry is back (the master of crushing small teams) I expect them to finish above them in the league.

Completely irrelevent as our team from 10 years ago is nothing like our team now. Neither is Arsenals for that matter, though atleast they still have the same coach.

Arsenal can compete well with the top teams, were as Liverpool cant

Last season in the league they only beat ourselves at home (and vice versa with us). This season they've done well in the big games but have failed to beat the small teams. Do I really need to reel off a list of the top teams we've beaten under our current manager? I don't think I do and even if I did it would be irrelevent because Houllier's record against the big teams was quality in his first 3 seasons but it didn't stop us being rubbish.

I know this thread is now the perfect place for you mancs to get in your cheap digs, given that you just manage to take apart a team that hadn't won in 9 games... in injury time. But let's not go overboard with baseless statements eh.

One man team and even then you need to add on injury time until you're winning.

The way in which you lost 3-0, was outclassed, it was a big difference in class. the 1-3 obviously i meant the f.a cup match, losing at anfield to the same team who beat you 3-0 away from home, surely you cannot say we are far better than them. In the league it is very close, but arsenal have been without there best player for most of the season. Arsenal have better players, and in the end no matter how good the manager it will show. if alves is there not finnan, simao not pennant etc then the team looks much stronger, but you sign average instead of top class.

Bellamy is no better than cisse. pennant is average. not enough top top players. arsenal have these. next year when i think about the title race, unless liverpool sign people cannot see them in with a chance. but arsenal will have top players toure gallas cesc rvp walcott henry adebayor. liverpool gerrard alonso possibly kuyt....agger also is a possible one.

    It's just the reality imo.

Nevermind, bottom line, walcott will be a top player. pennant is an average to good player, good crosses not much else. Liverpool have to sign top players if they want to win the premiership, and they are not doing that. When we Man Utd did that, we were a mess also. signed djemba kleberson howard etc all in one season, all average, and won next to nothing due to this.

Pennant never will be a top player, you're right about that. He's a squad player that offers something different though. The fact is that ugly as it may be, sometimes crosses into Crouch are more effective than trying to play through the middle. In the same way that sometimes playing with Gonzalez and Bellamy is more vital than playing possession football for 80 minutes.

LRD is right in that we need more quality players, though I think people are going over board with regards to exactly how much require. Benitez up to this point has alter 80% of his squad. Whereas Chelsea and United are going out and spending £18-24m on single players we have had to buy 2-3 players with the same amount of money if we want to compete over the course of a season. There's no sense in us buying a Drogba, if we're going to have to bring in a Neil Mellor everytime he's injured. Likewise it's no good for us to sign an Arjen Robben when he's got Djimi Traore doing the overlapping.

Yes, we could do with 2-3 'special' players to add to the core of the team but this is the first summer since Rafa's arrival where massive rebuilding won't be required, so who's to say we won't go for those types of players. The ones that affect the big games.

Up until then, we're more than capable of steam-rolling over the remaining 16 teams in the premiership whereas Arsenal simply aren't at the moment, or atleast, not that they've shown. Exactly why I think we'll finish ahead of them, even if they do have better players on paper than ourselves.

It's no good talking about Hleb, Rosicky, Walcott, Cesc, Ljungberg, Adebayor, Baptista, Henry etc when you can only play so many at once. What's the point of all that attacking talent when a single injury to Gilberto means you're playing Flamini regularly?

not really, once Momo comes back and Kewell

    we will play this:

    Kewell, Sissoko, Alonso, Gerrard

    most likely

with Pennant and garcia pushing for right mid maybe
