There's a slight difference in Benitez signing a £6m striker when Baros and Cisse were out injured and Fergie spending close to £30m on a player you had no place for in the team

At that time Scholes was as good in the hole as he was in central midfield.

We didn't have an abundance of quality strikers as well other than RVN and Ole and Ole has always been better as an impact sub. He ended up playing on the right anyway.

He was planning on puting scholes just of RVN, with Giggs on the lef, Beckham on the right and kean and Gattusso playing deep (a bit like pirlo/gattusso combo at Milan). The team on paper was perfect, I still think thats the best team weve had in my time. There were a few games when they all played and were on form and it we played the most breathtaking football. @Glen, you could easily come in the top 4 and win the league cup, youre team is way better than anything outside the top 4. The league cup will always be a crap competition, but its a trophy. I wasnt overjoyed when we won it last year, but I enjoyed the game. Its a day out for the fans and players. You wont come second and theres no difference between coming 3rd or 4th, its like withthe play offs it doesnt matter were you finish as long as you finish with the play off bracket.

Juventus 0-3 Man United.

& that was even without Scholes and Ruud and with Pip Neville in midfield.
