    Smile Good stuff.

I say 'by the end of the year' because they're not moving until June. I could rephrase, and say 'by the end of June', if you'd prefer...

The Metro ran a report on the highest paid earners in sport this morning.

Beckham is presently tenth on the list but this will bump him up to fourth, only behind Schumacher, Jordan and Woods.

I read it would bump him up to third on the BBC's report. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/6253829.stm

Yes but the Metro looked at all time earners hence why Michael Jordan would still be ahead of him making him fourth :k:

I saw that. Ali was third! confused

With Schumacher retired, he'll probably move up to the top 3.

Golfers earn ridiculous amounts now. I think he earns around $15 million a year in prize money alone.

Even a player having a poor season could quite easily pick up $1 million.

The other $30 million for Woods is endorsements.

Golfers earn alot through sponsoring. At 21 and in his first season, Tiger Woods got a $100+mil 7 year sponsorship deal with Nike - excluding the royalties he gets from the his clothing line - after winning his first tournament. Yikes

Golfers are mostly sponsored by Loaners, housing projects, Rolex, Nike and especially high end golf club manufacturers. All feature some of the most expensive products and pay big. Really big in fact, as golfers should exude an air of inaccesibility for the normal man. Most have their own official golf products and exclusive clothing lines. Not to mention all those $100.000+ paid cameos at different country clubs around the country/world.
    Its not rocket science.

I read somewhere that a high earning golfer can make up to three (sometimes four) paid apearances a day. He just needs to join the breakfast/brunch/lunch/snack/dinner/nightcap, give a three minute speech and put a ball, shake a few hands*, a few photos*, kiss a few babies and that's it. And he can jump in his Maybach on to the next gig.

    A hard days work.

    * at additional cost of course.

'Brilliant' marketing startegy by the Americans. Try to sell a 'sissy' sport, by making a guy in a sarong their new icon. 1/4 of a bn down the drain.

Disagree mate. The novelty value will wear off within a couple of years, but the initial spotlight on the league is what they desperately needed in the first place. Its mainly a boost in sales and home youth development/recruitment.

Wasn't Figo going to play in Middle East this/next season? He too could have chosen the MLS so to say. And during the summer a MLS team were willing to pay Ronaldo (the fat one) $70mil a season.

They tried this once more in the late 70s: Cruijff, Beckenbauer, Pele, Best, etc. To no avail. Football is close to unsellable (girly image) to non Spanish speaking Americans.

It makes you sick when you think about it. Mchael Burke was talking ealrier in the week about how when he was in africa he was doing a report on the famine and in the hour that he was filming the report he witnessed ten people die of starvation.

theres something seriously wrong with this world, nice to see that our government doesn't give a fuck about it either. The lib dems are poor on a lot of things but IMO they have it right at least with taxes

That's because the government are part of the elite rich. It is inconceivable that they'd change the world when it gave them power, money and fame. Much easier to create a false enemy (radical Muslims), pretend to be defending the population against them, and thus perpetuate their own power, money and fame. The War on Terror(ism) is, ironically, the path of least resistance for Blair. For all his 'we're in a struggle that may last for generations' statements, it's actually the easiest thing for him to do.

The Lib Dems are a joke - the best policies in the country, the worst PR in British political history. They opposed the nuclear re-armament policy, but not loudly enough. They voted against the few sound policies of the Labour government due to partisan bullshit. They cannot be taken seriously, or trusted to deliver if they ever got into power. And the women in their party are all morons, which makes them look like politically correct, 'inclusive' munchkins.

    Tweeds

To think of it, getting paid more than a normal job for kicking a ball around - a hobby which the player enjoys - is in essence ridiculous. Let alone getting a millinion, or a quarter of a billion.

Its not different, however, to the bonuses many directors of corporations (even small ones) get. Its obscene.
While teachers and cops can barely pay the rent.

    Tis how the world 'works'.
