I think I voted for C. Ronaldo. Silly that he is not in the team.

Take out Gerrard and put Drogba on as third striker.

I didn't vote but would have gone more for Deco, but haven't seen him much this season (if at all).

It was predictable that spanky would have a problem with gerrard being in the team.

And it's about board favourites as well, what did kaka do in the last year, and no-one is complaining about him.

Didn't gerrard win player of the season or something, so at least from jan to june he did well, scored 20 odd goals and a load of assists, came 3rd in the prem by 1 point. He played pretty well in the CL, or are we blaming him for the strikers missing loads of chances against benfica in both games and the defenders going to sleep for the goals? Sorry i didn't realise that was gerrard's fault. Also he had a decent if unspectacular world cup but please point out a midfielder on the list that did have a great world cup. No, thought not. It was a defenders world cup, as can be seen from the picks.

Oh yeah and after a dodgy start to the season he has really picked up his form, so there was only about a month or two at the start of the season that he played poorly.

    Kaka was class last season!

Played well in the Champs league, played well in the league (though not amazingly) and was one of Brazils better players at the World Cup, probably true that C. Ronaldo should be in there ahead of him though Ale

Half of his 20 goals came in 2005, 8 of them in pre Champions league qualifying.

He had an average World cup. This season he's form has only picked up in JANUARY 2007.

He did not have a good 2006.

Valdés should have been chosen for keeper.. People forget we had the best defensive record last year in la liga, and that we won the CL.. Valdés made Henry look like an amateur..

The most underrated keeper in the world..

surely the presence of Rijkaard must be questioned also. He makes such terrible tactical mistakes still. If he worked for a small(er) team, like, say, Sevilla, with the players there, would he have achieved what Juande Ramos has?

Agree completely with you Toon. Juande should be given credit for what he's done with a top 10 Sevilla in turning them into one of the big four. Despite the fantastic football his team play people choose the big name manager - who recently has been makin big mistakes in matches.

But in last year's CL Rijkaard got it spot on, so IMO this award for him is fully deserved. Don't forget how he broke with our normal midfield and played Edmilson-Motta together against Chelsea. And don't forget how he guided a defensive pairing of Motta and Oleguer in the Benfica matches. Also the substitution of Belletti to widen the play in the final was a very good move. So he deserves it 200%.

Yes, Ramos has done and is still doing a super job with Sevilla, but look at the teams they played in the UEFA cup. No one even half decent (sorry cooper).

I'm not convinced the subbing on of Belletti was to widen the play, more so that Oleguer had got two or three good opportunities, so the channel was obviously there to be exploited, but Oleguer had been dreadful in his delivery from there.

But whatever, it was a key tactical substitution that was in large part responsible for the victory.

Yeah, basically Belletti attacks more often than Oleguer, so he sent him on to exploit the gaps and try to create a goal. Thankfully Belletti did more than just create.

Oleguer is our best defensive right back.. end of story..

Last weekend it was a case of damage limitation since our midlfield was being overrun and we desperatly needed a little defensive solidity.

I actually think that Oleguer should have played a lot more this season since Zambo has been dreadful 75% of the time and Belletti injured most of the time.
