"It's logical now that Saviola is one of our strikers", commented the Dutch coach, "We need all our players to be prepared - Saviola has shown great desire and attitude, so if the time comes for him, it will not be by chance".

take from it what you will, its seems as if he will give him a fear Shot

Sport says Rijkaard will go with a triplete of Giuly-Messi-Ronaldinho...he's played this before for 20-30 mins in some games, but I'm a little disappointed that Guddy is not being given the start immediately.

@Tweedle: What do you mean Zambo should be played as striker to get more playing time? He's already started more games than Belletti this season.

Yeahh... I would have prefered Guddy too.. None of Dinho, Messi or Giuly are really natural finishers like Eto'o or (hopefully) Gudjohnsen..

But I say recall Maxi as soon as possible!!!

Rijkaard Set To Start Without A Striker
Barcelona coach Frank Rijkaard is set to send out an attacking trident comprising Ronaldinho, Messi and Giuly against Athletic Bilbao tonight.

Slotting Gudjohnsen up front instead of Eto'o seemed to be plan A, but Rijkaard is looking at other possible solutions as well, keeping in mind that Eto'o could be out until February.

He indicated as much upon his arrival in Bilbao: "Normally, Gudjohnsen would play, as he is the second striker. But we could also change some things."

Practise sessions on Friday indicate that Giuly will start on the right, Ronaldinho on the left, and Messi in the centre.

However, during the practise match, both Ronaldinho and Giuly were seen taking their turns in the centre, with Messi dropping to either flank.

The move is set to leave both Gudjohnsen and Saviola on the bench.

    Expected Starting XI:

    - - - - - - - - - Valdés - - - - - - - - -

    Zambrotta - Puyol - Márquez - Gio

    - - - - - - - - Edmílson - - - - - - - - -
    - - - - - Xavi - - - - - - Deco - - - - -

    - - Giuly - - - - - - - - - Ronaldinho
    - - - - - - - - - Messi - - - - - - - - -

Make sure somebody hides Messi's passport too Wink

The problem is that they are all mediapuntas. Gudjohnsen is the closest we have to a proper striker. Saviola, Messi and Ronaldinho can all score gaols but aren't really the ones you want alone in front.

That's what he can do, fantastic performance by him and great result overall. Too narrow in the 1st half but we kept improving as the game went on. Marquez was tremendous, and how about Xavi's play in the 2nd and 3rd goals? Cool

the ref was crap really. It wasn't a sending off. Again when on disadvantage, Barça recieves a hand by the ref and Casas went out.

Very, but I always backed him. Hopefully he's convinced some others that he can play as a solo striker. He was brilliant in coming deep, holding up the ball with his back to goal, laying it off, then making the run. He also made lots of lateral runs around the box, and moved to the left or right when needed to provide support to the play. And a great finish as you said.
