    Ahh, after some real research:

    Messi - 1
    Deco - 1
    Marquez - 1

Not counting Zambrotta and Saviola, both of whom had one each as well.

I hereby take back my compliment Smile

I agree that you can't blame walcott, but you couldn't give him credit either.

Which cole are we talking about? Ashley or Joe, as I thought they were both relatively ok. Also agree that crouch was one of the better players, along with rio and hargreaves. After that who was better than gerrard? When he was a defensive midfielder no goals were scored, when he went forward he scored. He had a decent if unspectacular world cup.

It is interesting though that the manu fan has picked Gerrard who let his country down, completely forgetting Rooney being sent off. The 10 men left behind I thought played better than when rooney was on the pitch and Gerrard happened to be one of these. Laugh

Ashley Cole was bloody terrible. Mediocre at the back, absolutely useless going forward. Went inside Joe Cole EVERY time he passed the halfway line, thus completely defeating the object of attacking fullbacks (i.e. to provide width).

Top scorer, plus one assist, in a midfield where he had to carry a seriously below par Lampard and Beckham. What's hilarious is that you think that needs defending.

How did he do vs Portugal when we really needed a performance?

I expect a response, no worse than Rooney. Rolling Eyes

Gerrard did the usual - his goals covered up mediocre all round play in the centre, though he did track back well. Was better than Fwank, but that's not really saying much, is it?

Rio, Hargreaves, Crouch, J.Cole& maybe Gaz Neville were England's best players.

I wasnt singing Gerrard out for letting England down. Obi said Gerrad unlike Keane never lets his country down, I simply informed him that the 'best English midfielder' missing a penalty in WC QF is letting the country down.

Rooney wasnt match fit and wasnt really doing anything, him getting sent off, didnt really affect the outcome, we were playing crap with him on the pitch and crap of it.

At the end of the day, you dont lose a penalty shoot out because someone got sent off 45 minutes earlier, you lose because you cant score penalties. The same thing happened to Italy in Euro 2004, but they scored there penalties.

Maybe it doesn't get to penalties if you have 11 on the pitch?

He'd been playing as a DM all tournament and you didn't concede . Your point? Or are you blaming him for Rooney's inability to stay on the field and do his job as an attacker?

Whats that got to do with the Portugal game where Hargreaves was playing as the DM and still did more attacking than Gerrard and Lampard combined.

So essentially you agree that apart from rio, hargreaves, cole and crouch he was the best player.

Neville is very debatable, as I don't remember him doing anything at all at the world cup. But I'll be happy to hear what he did that makes you think he was one of the best players.

Hahaha Joe Cole Doh Scored one good goal and did fuck all else.

Exactly half of England's goals were either scored or created by Gerrard. Without Gerrard, you'd have gone out in the group stages.
