    Actually that lineup is pretty acurate by TS
    but I dont think Merte should be compared to Rio , perhaps Metz.
    As Metz is so injury prone ,
    Merte --- Rio would be an awesome partnership.

    "Better" is a very subjective judgement here. We had the likes of Breitner, Rummenigge, Littbarski, Matthäus, Stielike, Kaltz, Fischer in our side in 1982, some of them are all time greats. You have a point when you mention 2002, but that was an exception. The truly successfull Germany sides were full of brilliant individuals.

    But like I said, you need both, great individuals and team spirit to be successful.

    France had Michel Platini, Alain Giresse, Marius Trésor, Bernard Genghini, Dominique Rocheteau, Didier Six...

You watch his matches in his first season in the Prem and believe to have seen it all. Watch a few matches for die Mannschaft (e.g. against the Czechs), and you will understand how important and absolutely class he is. Frings and Ballack have a blind understanding, it'll be very difficult to find a better central midfield partnership in the world, and that's not exaggerating.

    Ballack is rated, if anything, Frings is underrated.

Sorry, but we have produced some of the best talent this sport has ever seen, on all positions that is. The best German national teams always had both, brilliant individuals and team spirit. To be successful, you need both.
    Biggrin

    At least I gave you 5 German players I'd put in the team. Otto didnt even choose one Englishman (Merte > Rio??), and to rub it in, it didnt go unnoticed that he put Weise in net (ie suggesting Robinson isnt even as good as Germany's second string) and Kuranyi upfront (suggesting Rooney isnt even as good as some half cooked Brazilian). THAT is good wind-up technique- I've got a lot to learn to be honest ! <Ale>

    Wiese >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Robinson

    Wiese is the future Kahn, a world class talent. Otto probably believes him to be even better than Lehmann (in future).

    It's a shame that Löw has not given him an opportunity to shine for die Mannschaft yet.

    Aye - I think people only remember Wiese's cock-up vs. Juve that dumped Bremen out of the CL last year - ignoring that he was absolutly sensational in the 92 mins prior to that.

    Yeah, that's true. And they seem to forget his age also. He is young for a goalie still, and he learned from that mistake and grew as a player. He is better now than he has ever been.

    Making such a mistake and becoming stronger afterwards is what makes great players great. He has everything to become a true great.

    Your aunt might be an amazing woman, but you are clueless about German food. There is no such thing as "German food" anyway, because every region has a different cuisine. The Bavarian might be the most famous and stereotypical (Schweinehaxen, Weißwurst etc., thanks to the Oktoberfest), but die "Schwäbische Küche" (Schwabenland, in today's Baden Württemberg, right next to Bayern) is quite different, for example. Not to mention the Northern and Eastern German cuisine.

    But don't get me started on English cuisine...

    P.S.: David James > Paul Robinson

    Both exceptional talents for the goalie position.

    As far as the Spurs vs. Werder argument is concerned, both teams will have to advance to the semis first. With Robinson vs. Kanouté, I wish you the best of luck at least....

    @pelé

    Brazil have beaten Germany in Germany no less than 6 times. (not taking eastern germany into account).

    1963 - Brazil 2 - 1 Germany in Hamburg

    1973 - 1-0 in Berlin

    1978 - 1-0 in Hamburg

    1981 - 2-1 in Stuttgart

    1998 - 2-1 in Stuttgart

    2005 - 3-2 in Nurenberg

    @Otto

    if you had to play Bolivia, Ecuador, and Colombia in the clouds, you would lose like Brazil and Argentina do. period.

    let's see the numbers of direct confrontation (not counting Eastern germany, for it would be too humiliating).

    brazil - 12 wins / 37 goals scored
    germany - 3 wins / 22 goals scored
    draws - 5
