Kas I know they are not like Watford, if I used reason and logic, it wouldnt be an effective wind up.

Everton is probably a good comparison: Upper-midtable but with a good defensive system.

Updated the link for the video with Arabic commentary in the first thread. Audiovisual (Spanish broadcasters) knew this would explode on Youtube so they've forced all the good videos of the goal to be removed Grr

In the spirit of many other contributions, I would say crouch's overhead kick in the CL has been the best goal I have seen this season, whihc he repeated in the EPL for those who might have missed it.

Much better than Messi's one off run without anyone tackling him and the goal keeper falling on his arse leaving an open net Wink

    Oh Luis luis luis,

Im glad you said that because it gives me another chance to rant at the effing referee who awarded Sevilla that "Penalty"(I use the term loosely) in a totally unrelated topic, whilst up on the stands at exactly the same time the Police were also fucking Spurs over- mostly their disabled fans.

Sevilla went through on away goals in my mind, nothing more

Gefate are like Watford and if Rooney had scored a goal like that against Watford, the non English contingent would have said its against a Cr@p team, who cant defend.

In all seriousness it was a wonderful goal, but its no Maradonna v England

Overlooking the important fact that Rooney doesnt have the ability to score a goal like that.

Fantastic goal by Messi, he had an awesome game, Xavi`s goal was awesome too !

No contest between Diego`s and Messi`s goal for me, like everyone has already said, Diego done against much tougher opposition.

saw the goal today and it was incredible. the best dribbling goal i have ever seen. before people claim that getafe is just some side(to late) this side has the best defensive record in the league with 23 goals. so it is not just some defence.

I don't really rate these goals because the defending has always been bad when it happened. I always think why hasn't that guy made a proper challenge.

    ok

So true - even for Maradona's goal.

Reid and Fenwick (esp) were a fucking disgrace.

I don't think its inevitable that Messi will be a great player as he lacks the physical qualities today's game requires.

I don't agree with that, e.g. crouch's overhead kick. No defender could have done anything about that Wink.

Seriously though, sometimes there is movement off the ball, intricate passing, or some amazing long distance shot and the defence cannot do anything about it because it is just that good. However when a player runs half the length of the pitch without anyone putting in a proper tackle that's bad defending.

Too true- Roma had the best defensive record in the CL until United annihilated them, yet there were plenty of posts on here proclaiming Roma's poor defending as the reason for the slaughter rather than United's attacking prowess.

Its a pretty popular excuse in these situations.

Personally, I think Messi's speed and the total audacity of his direct running had the defenders totally baffled, like Maradonna's did in 86. Even the best defenders can be made to look silly when they are given no time to position themselves and make the right decisions.

So fair play, Messi can finally be compared to Aaron Lennon on that showing. A Tesco's super saver version <Ale>

I think thats the problem with this board, and I am guilty of it as well, is that people very rarely give credit were its due, hiding behind excuses.

The Roma united game is a perfect example, firstly all the posters claim Roma play united of the park and our a great side and gave united a footballing lesson, some even think Roma could win the CL.

A week later united anhilate them, giving them the hiding of their lives and suddenly the team with the best defensive record in Seri A and the CL are rubbish at defending and were the second weakest team left in the competition.

Anyway the goal was probably the goal of the season, it is similar to Maradonna's but you cant compare the ywo, due to the circumstances and occasion.
