My Sunderland can beat Chelsea - Keane

Keane performed well in most of the games he played, hence why he won everything at club level and if he wasnt Irish could have won everything at International level.

Oh Taking Ireland to the world cup at the expense of Holland, is a huge game that springs to mind.

I could find one instance for any footballer where they have lost a dual once... its the players who win overoverwhelmingly consistantly that are remembered and become true winners.

Hence Keanes trophey cabinet (and can proudly boast being an integral part in actually acheiving those trophies), in comparison to Rui Costa's.

Keane won nothing of note - the Prem meant nothing pre 2004/2005.

The really stupid thing is that you mention 2 big European/International games that Rui Costa has played well in - then when we discuss Keane you say he performed in all of them.

Why are people hyping up Sunderland so much? They have been on a good run and are top of the Championship...and?

I think they'll get relegated again.

Redondo made Keane look like a donkey everytime they crossed paths, albeit a hardworking, psychopathic one.

I admit that I'll find it very entertaining watching Keane's reactions should Sunderland get promoted and get beaten week in week out.

I wouldn't be surprised. Seems to me in order to have any chance of surviving in the Premiership you've gotta be VERY good by Championship standards (i.e Reading). Sunderland seem just slightly better then the rest.

To say we should discount all his efforts in the Premiership prior to 2004/5 just because Chelsea weren't strong is ridiculous but makes your argument easier I guess

You bring up one match in which he was outplayed and use this as the basis for your argument. What a load of nonsense. We've all seen Zidane get "pissed on" in certain games aswell, doesn't mean anything. Anyway, he wasn't that good in the return game IIRC.

What big games did Keane play well in?

Ireland's best player in the 1994 World cup
Ireland's best player in qualifying in 2002 against the likes of Portugal and Holldand.
Pretty much all our games vs Arsenal and Liverpool our two rivals during his time (Arsenal for the league, Liverpool for obvious reasons).
Numerous CL games, including probably the best win our club has ever had.

u didn't watch that game. Vieira and maka were probably the 2 best french players on the night.

It was Roy Keane, Steven Reid and Kevin Kilbane against Vieira, Makelele and Zidane and Keane was still superb.

Makelele was great too though.

I don't think they could beat Chelsea or any of the top seven for that matter at the moment. Sunderland should beat Colchester today and then they will be only a few more games to promotion.

They will be much better than last time, thats for sure. Quinn will back Keane this Summer so there squad will be better equiped. I'm not sure they will do a REading of this season but mid-table security would be a realistic achievement for them.

They only have to win 2 of there next 3 to win promotion.

As for next season, its not just money they will have, players will want to play for Keane. Irish players and ex-United players for example.

I think we'll give them a couple of loan signings to start with as well.

It was a typical tight international game. no team really dominated and the creative players found the going tough (apart from the overrated diva who supposedly never does anything for france). Certainly no team really dominated the other as you imply.

Pierre is talking $h!t though. Keane obviously had plenty of top class performances over the years. I would still maintain that he was vastly overrated by Gray et al (ie the greatest midfielder ever BS)

He wasn't the best player in the world, but he was certainly the best DM in the world imo. For all the praise Beckham, Giggs, Scholes receive, there were times when he appeared to be playing on his own (main example being Turin 99 of course)

That was often his biggest attribute. He'd get the likes of Scholes, Beckham and Giggs going. One of the best captains of recent years.
