    lol!

just a slight exaggeration here bounce

It was a typical tight international game. no team really dominated and the creative players found the going tough (apart from the overrated diva who supposedly never does anything for france). Certainly no team really dominated the other as you imply.

Pierre is talking $h!t though. Keane obviously had plenty of top class performances over the years. I would still maintain that he was vastly overrated by Gray et al (ie the greatest midfielder ever BS)

I didnt watch the France v Ireland game so I cant really comment. I cant imagine it was a good game though.

Pierre has a serious problem with anything to do with united, but you are right he wasnt the greatest midfielder of all time. However the reason he gets so much praise in England is because of his mental attributes; his drive, desire, commitment and his never say die attitude. Attributes that are overated in this country and underated in Europe. One thing is clear he is a united legend and thats enough for me.

He wasn't the best player in the world, but he was certainly the best DM in the world imo. For all the praise Beckham, Giggs, Scholes receive, there were times when he appeared to be playing on his own (main example being Turin 99 of course)

probably the best captain of recent times but i don't rate his footballing abilities that much

Yeah he was such a good captain he walked out on ireland when they needed him the most Wink

thugs can thrive in the prem and elevate themselves above the status their ability implies they should reach. From keane to batty to savage to sissoko I doubt each would have achieved the relative success they did here in another league.

Perhaps a bit harsh on keane as he did have a bit more to his game than the above but the theory is still the same. Essien is maybe the closest example in the prem today to what keane could do for a team and hopefully mascherano will fill that type of position as well

Nope not at all...none of my posts about Sunderland have anything to do with having a soft spot for Newcastle. I know that sounds like bull $h!t, but it's true. I'm just pointing out Sunderland a lot because they're getting hyped so much, and I disagreed with that hype. And I just happened to find this thread, so I thought it'd be a good bump Razz

But anyway, it seems with their signings everyone else is now realising that it's not just going to be automatic success for them just because of the Keane name.

He's still planning on 2-3 more signings as well.

    O'Donovan seals Sunderland switch

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/s/sunderland/6939285.stm

Sunderland have signed Cork striker Roy O'Donovan for an undisclosed fee.

O'Donovan, 21, underwent a medical at the Stadium of Light on Thursday and has signed a three-year deal.

Fulham had wanted to sign the Republic of Ireland 'B' international, but O'Donovan said Sunderland boss Roy Keane had been very persuasive.

"I had a choice between Fulham and Sunderland but when I spoke to the gaffer my mind was made up," O'Donovan told the Sunderland website.

Cork had previously confirmed that a verbal agreement had been reached with the Craven Cottage club, for a fee reportedly of £530,000.

O'Donovan added: ""This is a big challenge for me and when the chance came about, I didn't think twice

"I had a knack for scoring goals in Ireland and I have to continue that at Sunderland."

    ===============================================

If he is anything like Kevin Doyle then Sunderland have a bargain. <Ale>
